I have seen apparent similarities between Destiny and the Bible in general. For example:
The collapse is like the Fall of Man. The Guardians are like Christians fighting sin. The Speaker is like the Bible itself, since he is sort of like the Traveler's word, and the Bible is God's word. Also, with TTK's recent release, the Darkness closes in, but the Light fights back and wins, which is like Jesus' return. The different factions are like different theological views.
If you do not believe in Jesus, God, or that the Bible is true, please be respectful and do not post hateful comments and just make a fool of yourself. Believe what you want.
I also realize that this doesn't completely align with Destiny's lore, and you need to understand that I am making this understandable for the average Destiny player.
Have a nice day and God bless you.

Here's the thing: The Bible is one of, if not the best selling books of all time. It is studied not just in a religious context, but also from a literary perspective. The stories are well known, and many of them follow the form of classical literature. It's possibly the single most used source of inspiration in storytelling. There are elements of it EVERYWHERE. You're reading too far into it. Those of you who don't like his idea as a whole, and think that the Bible and elements thereof need to stay out of your favorite things: You better stop liking things. It's everywhere.

Edited by Schattenjager: 10/13/2015 4:18:52 PMDestiny actually reminds me of what hell would be like if I had to imagine something worse than the lake of fire. An eternal existence from which not even death is an escape, where I have a gun pretty much glued to my hands and as my only entertainment I am pretty much forced to kill multitudes of creatures that, like me, always just re-spawn again. The demons who run the show reside in the tower, laughing into their sleeves as they tell me how special I am and what great accomplishments I've achieved when I know I'm just like a million other sorry souls who have done the exact same shit for the tenth time. Ikora: "Oh no guardian there is a big evil villain *snicker* who is out to destroy all that is good *snicker* you are the only one who can save us! *Pfffffff ahahaha!* " Me: "Why are you laughing?" Ikora: "*Ahem* Oh no it's nothing, just thinking of a joke Cayde told me earlier" Me: "So if I kill him will he be gone and everyone will be saved?" Ikora: "Yes, of course he will *hehe* he totally won't just re-spawn and be right there to trigger the incentive device *ahem* I mean raid gear drops over and over again". Me: "....Really?" Ikora: "Yeees, you can trust me *snicker* have I ever let you down?.... Don't answer that....." Well that might be the conversation I would have if I could talk... but Guardians are all mute so I can't even tell Ikora to go -blam!- herself before I inevitably just go out to shoot immortal aliens in the face over and over again. Best I can do is give her a little dance like a good little guardian.

Edited by NormalID: 10/13/2015 10:16:15 PMAtheists are the scum of the Earth. Edit: LOL why do you idiots think I'm christian? Stop with your dumbass assumptions.

Cool post. I have thought the same.
-
Very thoughtful post. Analogies can be beautiful things sometimes. Respect.
-
What's with all the bible bashing ? This is a forum for video games, Wtf !
-
No, Destiny is like Hitler's final solution... We kill everything we don't understand.
-
I believe in the Traveler more than Jesus. At least the Traveler ain't afraid to show itself.
-
"Thou shalt not kill" *checks grimoire *sees 67 thousand thrall kills "....Well, -blam!-"
-
I'm Christian but please don't bring religion in games/forums especially FPS's
-
Awesome. Good to know there are other Religious people that play this game. I hate reading some of these comments though :\ If you don't have nothing nice to say, don't say anything.
-
Bible =\= God's world Guardians are resurrections of the dead = Sin Rasputin damaging the Traveler(God?) Illuminati confirmed Sleeper Stimulant is the key to Atlantis.
-
Not very Christian to call people fools.
-
Well in that case Call of Duty is just like the Bible because call, of and duty are all in the Bible at some point and there are guns in Call of Duty which I am pretty sure are in the Bible too. How do you think Jesus defeated Cthulu? With his AK 47!!
-
while I see similarities I think your examples are pushed to the limit. We don't really know anything about the Speaker. He could be moses, he could be satan, he could be lucifer. The Traveler is either god, or is a god. Destiny has a lot of lore based in religion just not all Christianity. (this is a destiny related topic that deserves to be on the main page with religion in it. see the other thread to understand why this was an issue)

2 things you never talk about Religion and Politics....I say it's best to keep this stuff off forums.
-
Funny how when someone says there catholic all the atheists shut up And when someone says there Christian a war begins in 72 different places
-
Yeah, the books of sorrow make reference to the Leviathan, which is a biblical sea monster. Pretty cool too
-
Atheists win.
-
-
Just no
-
I think it's funny that people see the word Bible and get bent out of shape.
-
What about the parts of the bible that tell us to kill stuff for extremely menial offenses? :(
Religion shouldn't be on the forums though, I'm not trying to hate you or anything, but the internet is probably one of the worst places to discuss religion. I guess I can see where your coming from
-
The same stories can be found in religions and cultures throughout history, long before christianity.

End yourself

Edited by ORANGEDRONE: 10/13/2015 3:16:29 PMI think they just got carried away with the story telling in The Bible. The basic concept is similar to other religions. Accept that you are powerless etc. Ask to be saved or lost into the ether of time and forgotten. I'm not one to say anything is or isn't bullshit for absolute 100%. It could be all in how it's been inadvertently distorted throughout the years - to the point where it tends to sound a bit unrealistic in our modern times. But, we live on a ball floating in infinite blackness. Since that fact is true then anything can technically be possible.
