Awareness does nothing. Awareness is standing next to a horrible car crash and instead of helping you're yelling down an empty road "LOOK!!!!"

Fuking lmao
-
Why do you have to ruin a post like this by telling people lies, awareness is sometimes all people can do, unless you interviewed people, your opinion is just a bucket of salt
-
And why would I need to interview people for facts to be valid?
-
How would you know it's a fact? It's merely all in your head bud
-
I suggest you look up the definition of facts, and actually do your own research instead of blindly dismissing the truth. The fact that you haven't done this research yourself and are still arguing like you have is so incredibly moronic, it must be incredibly easy to rip you off if you just believe what their marketing department tells you. Truth: The CEO of Susan G Kohmen just took a 64% pay raise, bumping her salary up to about $684,000, more than the US president makes. She also said she would resign after this scandal broke. Guess who's still in charge? Ask yourself what non profit charity needs to have it's CEO make more than the US president? Wouldn't a large portion of of that do more good going to the 'cancer research' they claim to fund? As quoted from Charity Navigator, “This pay package is way outside the norm," he said. "It's about a quarter of a million dollars more than what we see for charities of this size. ... This is more than the head of the Red Cross is making for an organization that is one-tenth the size of the Red Cross.” With the NFL: http://www.businessinsider.com/small-amount-of-money-from-pink-nfl-merchandise-goes-to-breast-cancer-research-2013-10 Truth: About 3.4% of pink sales in the NFL go towards the American Cancer Society, another awareness group, while the majority of the funds go towards the manufacturer and distributor (guess who? The NFL). The ACS is an organization where only 17% of it's budget goes towards research, and the rest goes towards awareness and patient support. Again, a company that is not really putting any effort into finding a cure. Hell, in 2008 they were already on the radar as shady, as one report puts it, "We haven’t yet established anything about whether the American Cancer Society or Susan G. Komen is effective (or ineffective) at accomplishing their missions. But we, at least, have been surprised by this fairly basic information. Both organizations seem to spend relatively small portions of their funds on researching new treatments or cures. Both organizations spend significant portions of their funds on “raising awareness” type activities." Why would most of the budget go to raising awareness instead of going towards actual research if these people were actually looking for a cure? Because they're not. It's a business, plain and simple, disguised as good will. So seeing as how I can look that up to quote actual numbers very easily, and you bring nothing to back up what you're claiming... It's all in your head, bud. The proof is all over the place, and very well documented. I suggest you educate yourself.
-
Raising awareness increases the amount of donations cancer research organizations receive. For example, I could donate $100 to cancer research not a lot but it's something or I could do something to raise awareness of the need of donations and get several people to donate $100. In which situation did I help more? I'm not trying to put anyone down but a lot of good comes out of awareness
-
If everyone chose to spread awareness instead of directly fund.. there would be no funding.
-
Lol did you come up with that theory on your own?
-
Your point
-
Oh and I forgot cures have a pricetag
-
You cannot be this stupid and somehow make it through each day. Surely not?
-
This is both deep... And hilarious...

Edited by Loki: 10/11/2015 9:05:17 PMI wish I could call it original, but it's a Doug Stanhope bit stolen for the good of these forums. Check out Stanhope's Beer Hall Putsch - Triage the Charity Edit - Or maybe it's the 10K Fun Run for Nothing track... They both go together anyways.

If no one says "Look" and calls 911 does anyone come to the rescue?
-
Ok instead let's all get out there and destroy cancer.... Sometimes being aware is all we can do, unless you're a genius working on a cure OP?
-
That is, unfortunately, a lazy cop out. If awareness is all you can do then you're still doing nothing. There are actual organizations out there who are working to make better treatments for these conditions (because a cure isn't profitable). These don't have the bullying marketing campaign like the pink ribbon people have. Perhaps look into giving $5 a month to one of these organizations to help with the research, as that is infinitely more good than supporting cancer awareness groups. We're all aware of cancer, how about doing something more than simply being aware.
-
See look at that, you just made me aware of different places to donate. I will look into it because I'm very into donating. Funny how raising awareness does help eh? Lol BOOM.
-
Actually awareness is telling people how to prevent a horrible crash.
-
Actually, awareness is starting a 'charity' where the CEO makes more than the US president does, and barely any donations go towards actual cancer victims. Also, please note that the pink ribbon food that fills grocery store shelves in October has a ludicrously small amount of each sale going to 'cancer research' (mostly to pay the CEO's salary and more fund raising). Or the NFL blanketing their games with pink, none of the proceeds raised go towards cancer research. The funds go to another 'awareness charity' where no cancer patient even notices the difference. Awareness is a business created to dupe weak minded people into thinking they're helping their friends and family who suffer through these horrific conditions. When in reality they're merely lining the pockets of some lazy person with no real contribution to society.
-
Ok that is your take on that, and I won't judge you for it being different than mine
-
Wearing pink prevents breast cancer?
-
Helps spread awareness so people can learn to do regular check-ups to detect it as early as possible. It is to prevent it from getting to the point where it can kill you. Cancer research foundations haven't learned how to completely prevent it but still, by going to check-ups regularly can help detect it early and prevent it from doing as much bodily harm as we can.
-
Awareness can only go so far sometimes you have to just do it....no Shia intended
-
We won't ever have a cure friend
-
It's attitudes like that that get people to stop looking nice for a cure. As for the rest of us hopeful people, we'll continue to wait and hope that a cure is found. You can sit there, with your "there will never be a cure" attitude.
