For everyone who complains about dying to shotguns in the Crucible...please stop complaining. And Bungie...please stop trying to please the people who constantly complain about weapons.
Are shotguns powerful in the crucible? Yes
Should shotguns be powerful in the crucible? Yes
Are shotguns the best gun for every situation? No
The last of those three questions is a simple way of reasoning why shotguns don't need to be nerfed further and why the perk SHOT PACKAGE does not need removed from all shotguns. Bungie mentioned replacing shot package with knee pads. Shotgunners will be sliding in your DMs like...
The shotgun fits a particular play style, that of aggression. It fits a player who runs fast with a primary weapon that is effective at close/medium and sometime medium/medium-long ranges. It can also be effective in the hands of someone using a long range primary who needs a quick response to aggressive players. When you're running and gunning with your primary and you get close...it only makes sense to hot-swap to your shotgun and put someone down. I love using shotguns. I also love using sniper rifles. I also love using Bad Juju and Red Death. Zhalo Supercell is becoming a favorite as well. But do you know what I hate when I'm using a shotgun? I hate closing the gap and pulling the trigger just a moment too soon against what I think is an idle opponent and barely damaging him...because frankly, shotguns are far less effective at range in Destiny than they are in real life. I also hate when I'm just out of range to use my shotgun, my opponent is moving too fast for me to be effective aiming down sights with my pulse rifle...I have little options. Do you know what they have? A fusion rifle, guardians...a damned fusion rifle. And they melt me at a range that I can't reach them at. They're dancing side to side so that I can't kill them while their fusion rifle winds up and them boom, I'm dead...they just hip-fired me in the thigh and I disintegrate. But that's okay...because I know and they know that if I had gotten any closer they would have lost the encounter.
Every gun is good for different situations in the crucible...fusion rifles work extremely well against someone rushing you with a shotgun, so do sniper rifles, so do pretty much all primary weapons...and you have a radar hud that lets you know when someone is getting close (unless they're using trickery and space magic)
When/IF shotguns get nerfed to the point where they are no longer highly effective...you're going to get killed by something else just as much as you were getting killed by Matadors and Felwinter's Lies. You're going to get quick-scoped, you're going to get killed by your teammate exploding to a firelfy round and you're going to taste salt. You're going to spew salt. You're going to be salt. For the most part, the reason an opponent wins a one-on-one encounter in the crucible is because they're better than you, or they're better suited for the situation. If you're not good with shotguns, don't allow enemies to reach a range where they can shotgun you. When people complain about not only weapons...but even get so salty that they complain about the manner in which another player uses a weapon...do you know what that is?
-Fingertips on the surface of my mind.
The crucible is a battlefield, adapt. If your form of adaptation is whining...you need a better way to adapt. I haven't played Destiny since launch but from my experience in Destiny and the things I've heard from close friends who have been there since the beginning...I've noticed a trend.
The trend is as follows:
1. Weapon becomes powerful in crucible
2. People complain about weapon
3. Weapon gets nerfed
4. Rinse
5. Repeat
If you must complain, complain about the inherent server lag and the unfair lag advantage. If that gets fixed it will be a miracle.
Hold fast to your gun Guardian, become Legend...you know the rest.
-
to be honest i see every player who uses any shotgun in PvP as a noob (becaue shotgun requires no skill to use)
-
The range was still an issue. This hopefully will fix that. For those who use a shotgun in the ideal situations wont be affected. Shotguns are meant for someone rushing at you as a defense or running into a control zone where cqc was inevitable. Those who ran around with just a shotgun the whole game is what this nerf is for.
-
ATTENTION: I checked this poster's grimiore so you don't have to. Yes, a shotgun user. 3800+ kills. Thus, a bias is born.

If you want Shot package back go use The Chaperone

Crucible trend in year one: final round, shot package, last word, and thorn You had all of year one to blow people off the face of the earth (or whatever planet you're on), year two should be different, so find a new way

Edited by Whateves: 10/11/2015 3:00:38 PMI'd be fine so long as shotguns could no longer one hit kill, I think it's time bungie resurrected the old shotgun bash because put simply, getting one hit with a shotgun feels like dick slap especially if you've been gunning them down while they charge you
-
Edited by Bamboozlogician: 10/12/2015 4:37:17 PMI laughed at how many people started showering this post with salt before they even read past the title. (But not as hard as I laughed at "fingertips on the surface of my mind." Omfg, too good a reference.) For those with sub-par reading comprehension skills, the point isn't "omfg shotguns 4 lyfe," it's that there is always going to be a gun type that you hate coming up against in the crucible, and there are always going to be players finding the best ways to wreck your shit at all sorts of ranges- complaining and subsequently getting guns you don't personally like nerfed is just an endless, pointless cycle. Once one thing is nerfed, people will be complaining about something else- and others will be clamoring for the nerfed gun to get buffed again- just look at auto rifles. So, basically, the point is just stop bitching. Save your breath for server lag (or the fact that bungie thinks it's acceptable to take Black Spindle down to 290 two weeks after you got it, when you could have infused it up to 310 the long way by now). Become legend- don't be shit.

Best and most accurate article I have read. Bungie stop wasting time on nerfing weapons and fix the latency issues.

Shotguns are simply too effective in Crucible. Shot Package is objectively better than any other Shotgun perk in the game. Its best that it is removed. If removing Shot Package makes Shotguns even slightly less effective than its a win for Destiny. We need more reasons to use different weapons and use different playstyles. Shotguns currently give the greatest success with the least effort involved. The gun class isn't even being changed, only the perk is being removed. They could have reduced Shotguns damage like I wanted.
-
Bump!!!!
-
As a beta shotgun user I say shotpackage needs to go. If Bungie hasn't found a way to balance the perk to their likening by now, it will never be fixed.
-
Shotguns being a close range solution makes sense. Them having like the same range as hand cannons almost doesn't. It should be a one shot when up close gun, not a weapon you can drop someone with because they're in the same room. It's too damn hard to always avoid them around corners. Homie has to walk all the way around the map all the time and crap...
-
People complain because it's a one shot kill up close... Uhm ya know like it's supposed to be?? I wouldn't believe everyone would be okay if shotguns ended up having to be a two shot kill

Edited by Lost Sols: 10/11/2015 1:40:12 PMShotguns don't need nerfed, Fusion Rifles need buffed.

Oh, where to start. Shotguns should be strong yes, but not brokenly strong. Shot Package was a perk that made s shotgun go from mediocre to monster. Range perks should be taken out for shotguns. They are, and I'm glad. If you want to play agressive, get really close. You just can't kill from fusion rifle range anymore and that's good. It shouldn't rule the special slot. I'm tired of all the (insert exotic hand cannon) + (choice of conspiracy theory d), felwinter's, matador, party crasher) users. I'm happy to see this meta gone. Shotguns do need nerfing. Sorry, not sorry.
-
Shotguns main purpose are to deliver high damage at close range. The balance with range is a good idea, removing shot package is kinda... Good and bad. Good, stops the bitching Bad, PvE wise it is really helpful. I guess people have never played other games with shotguns have they? Remember when Flak cannons in UT3 were OP? They Wernt, they were built for an amount of scatter -blam!-yiness
-
I don't need to read this because I know your a shotgun try hard just like all the others...nice job of falling in line

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is what biologists call a "scrub". They are most commonly known for their ability to cry loudly. They are often found on the forums, trolling to get their favorite food, simply known as "attention". They throughly enjoy crying for nerfs, and then crying about the consequences of the nerf after the fact. This one seems unusually stupid, however. Unusually stupid scrubs commonly attack anything that disagrees with them verbally, but physically left alone. Regardless, please keep your hands, feet, arms and legs inside the tour bus at all time. Continuing onward, I believe I see the common "hater" just a short distance ahead or us....

Everyone is gonna be a critic. You can see points made. The game has to cater to everyone with different skill and knowledge base. I for one rather have shot package gone. Even with that it's still not gonna cure it. Conspiracy Theory - D is still a long range shot gun that everyone could get by doing one of the quests and doesn't have shot package. Maybe on a drop which is an option as well. I prefer shot guns over any other special. I think Bungie puts more emphasis on trying to get more variety (which they should) between the type of weapon used. I for one would like to use my dry rot but by the time I get the second shot off a party crasher or felwinter has got me laid out on the floor. Sometimes I can't get the first shot off because you have to force your opponent to make a mistake first.

instead of crying about the shotgun nerf try learning how to use a primary weapon kid

The problem is that meny of the new levels are made for shotguns they do not have open spaces to sniper although I like that it in courage a more of a hide round a corner and wait type of play which people do not like they like seeing people and not being sniper from afar or being shot dead as soon as they come round a corner and cuase of this people bitch. For God shakes make a level for fusion rife there bullet get suck into magnets every 5 seconds that will be amazing only laser guns work that would change the game or take radar out so no one can run and hide and if they do they just get left in a corner for hours.

Shotgun ranges need to be nerded. Fusion rifles and side arms need buff.
