I know its a lot of fun for some, but PvP is always maddening and frustrating for me and I avoid it whenever I can. That's why I always let out a few choice words whenever I am in the middle of a quest step to get something super awesome that I'd like to have suddenly leads into forcing me to do stuff in PvP. I might be the only one that has issues with this, but my enjoyment just drops once I see that "oh, you gotta do PvP to finish that thingy you gotten halfway on".
@Bungie - do you really need to bar everything awesome behind a PvP wall? I am doing the daily PvP stuff, do you REALLY need to force me to play something I don't like even more? FYI I can tell you that I'm not getting more fond of it the more I am playing it. There is super awesome gear locked to PvP exclusively so do you really need to have everything else awesome have to go through it as well? Chaperone, the exotic swords, the rank 5 gunsmith handcannon. I suppose I could chose not to do them naturally, but when just about every cool weapon is locked behind PvP that is really reducing my options of cool flashy stuff.
I beg you Bungie, for the future - stop locking so much behind PvP all the time - Have PvP exclusive gear like Iron Banner and such, but stop making most of the items have to go through PvP. Makes me a sad lion =C
All that negative stuff said, I have to say that I do thouroughly enjoy the changes to the Taken King and how some of the unique item quest like "Black Spindle" and "Sleeper Simulant" works. These kinda things I love, great work all around!
Edit: Wooh! Big subject. Bigger then I thought. Having hard time reading everything coming inn. One player came with the suggestion of having two ways of unlocking items. One PvE and the other PvP. Then players could pick which to go for. I like that idea. I get that PvP'ers aren't happy having to do PvE, same as I'm not happy doing PvP. I know what I like, but as some have pointed out, I can't expect Bungie to cater only to me. Thanks for a lot of feedback, I'm going to have to mull this over for a bit.

I like both
-
Maybe get a different game. an you know. stop throwing walls of text because you cant accomplish something
-
The iron banner was designed for people who do nothing but play Pvp. Essentially the pve haters. If anyone understands being locked out of something because it's pve or Pvp, it's those guys who hate pve. Just try to understand that you can't make everyone happy. I guess you are in the small percentage that is disappointed.
-
It's not ok if you complain about the quests, don't want to do Pvp? Then you get nothing
-
The same could be said for pve
-
Before ttk all the coolest weapons were blocked behind ToO , but the pvpers said "you've got the prison and two raids , deal with it" Which I understand their sentiment but its not fair, best exotic shotty , gotta get 2.0's and up for about 3-5 games to get through the first step with a shitty handcannon equipped the whole time.. I'm also almost 100% positive that ToO this year will offer better gear and weapons then the current raid (atleast in the looks department) I can agree , I'm average at pvp but I absolutely hate having to play it especially when it's laggy and I'm matchmade with players who are way better then myself .. Seriously not enjoyable at all
-
Yup, that's Bungie for you. Let's force our shitty lag fest Halo/Cod reject on everyone to advance in the game lol. I still play it though, but the only thing they should be concentrating on is fixing their connection and match making instead of nerfing every damn thing.
-
Agreed 100%, I feel the same. I have neither the time, patience, nor inclination for PvP.......yet find that quite often I'm forced into it, or just give up on that particular quest. Why not have a choice, I'd rather kill Taniks with melee inly than kill 15 guardians with critical damage
-
Get 2 people to help you boost in rumble.

I like PvP, but not in this game. I was quite a good BF3 player on the PS3, but the Crucible in this game is boring. It's just a couple players running around a boring small map, all players basically using the same guns cause that's all that needs to happen. No real evidence of team work, or a strategy. The only times I have played it were for bounties, and hated it. As others have said a 2 path option would be way better. Something like 3 heroic strikes in a row without dying, or like the class discipline quests where you have to kill so many with a super in a strike and complete the strike. They are hard enough challenges to warrant being part of an exotic quest, and replacing the crucible. Personally, this game would have been better if there was no crucible, and the focus was purely on the PvE, would have given no excuses for lack of story etc. Greedyvision already have COD for multiplayer games, should have made Destiny a massive RPG online game.
-
It causes teamates to quit matches as well. It why crucible became a mess. Can't play a game without half the team quitting as soon as you lose the lead.
-
The problem comes with so many bounties and quest steps requiring wins. People use their most powerful loadouts and quit if they start losing. Too much competition causes players to take the game too seriously.
-
PvP is bad in this game, bad coding, bad weapon design, too much listening to the PvP players wrecking balance and then having to fix the stuff they listened to, sniper shotguns, shit fusion rifles, extremely bad maps designed to FORCE you to play how bungie wants you to play rather than allowing you to focus on your strengths and defend your weaknesses, PvP in destiny IS a constant running joke in the gamer community and since TTK it has become hugely worse
-
It's to try to get players to get both PvP and PvE. So you don't stick with one all the time.
-
Aside from the exotic swords everything else that had PvP in the quest steps only seem to be good for PvP.
-
I hate PvP. But just in Destiny. I used to be good in CoD (minus the gay ones introducing jet packs)and Battlefield. Even the Battlefront Beta. But nope, not Destiny
-
Pvp in destiny is pretty bad and designed for children so who cares what kiddies say
-
It's a game... Why do people complain about stuff being "locked" behind one half when it's part of the GAME? Games are meant to be challenging and require lots of effort that is why this game is so fun. But to complain about a gun with PvP and PvE steps is absurd. Who cares if I don't like crucible. I still play trials and iron banner for the gear and do PvP quest because I want the loot. Some people don't like raids but they do them for the loot. Same with quests, court of oryx, nightfalls, strikes and so forth. I feel if you don't like an aspect of the game don't play it, but don't complain about gear being "locked" because you don't want to man up and get it done. I for one welcome a challenge and enjoy difficult quests which span across every facet of the game. TL;DR Bungie isn't locking gear behind parts of the game, you are for not wanting to play said parts of the game. Too hard? Get better. Games are SUPPOSED to be challenging.
-
Majority of quests require a mix of both. You want to force people who mainly play PvP to play PvE just because YOU feel that's how the game needs to be played?
-
To be fair, a lot of hardcore pvpers probably feel the same about multi-step pve quests and, currently, the best gear being from the raid. I do see your point and they could probably tone down the pvp requirements, but i hope they never outright get rid of them. I enjoy pve and pvp about equally
-
I don't like working, sharks, or miley cyrus.. But I work, swim, and jack off to miley cyrus.. Life, right?
-
PvP is terrible in my opinion. A secondary should never be stronger than a primary
-
Pretty much, but they need to pay blue berries to play a mode they don't practice. This allows the PvP "elite" in the pve game without skill or even group matchmaking to "earn" medals and gear because they totally want a challenge. You should play game the way they want to get better at the alternate mode because reasons. Sword is about the only gear that matters with crucible restraints. You can scum the second and third swords kills. Go smack people with an ice cream cone. They can stroke it to some phantom medals or rage, doesn't matter, and it'll be done soon enough. Mayhem is your best bet for most of this.
-
i think pvp is frustrating for a lot of people. thing is, some people like that. a few words you never hear are: calm happy crucible player
-
most of them PvP quests reward you for simply playing, unless you want to do the PvP EXCLUSIVE quest line from Shaxx ofc, you don't have to win or even be good what is so difficult in jumping into a Crucible from time to time?
-
Would you rather they bar it behind a raid or impossible boss?
