No. The Taken King is a different DLC from the two expansions.
It works like this:
Vanilla Destiny
The two expansions
- The Dark Below
- House of Wolves
The Taken King
You have to pay for it.

By purchasing the Taken King you will get all of the previous expansions. You will not lose your rank.

No not the whole game. You can buy the expansion pass. I don't remeber how much but I believe since it's last year's expansion it's cheaper now. Then you can buy just the Taken King add on. The least expensive version on XB1 is like 40 bucks. But if you don't already the other first two expansions it may be just as expensive to by the whole game with The Taken King and get the first two expansions included. As far as losing experience or rank you shouldn't if you're staying with the same console family. Your ranks and experience are saved on bungie's server and once you login it should reload your stats.
