Why would you do 90% of the Veterans Quest and then fly to The Reef and get a quest for Variks?
The Quest is all done on the Tower and takes about 5 minutes.
You're right in that it shouldn't have stopped it and should be still in your Quest Line ([i]is it? maybe on a different page?[/i]) but that's the first time I've heard of that one ... most people simply were never offered the Veteran's Quest to start with, and that's the issue being inquired about.

I didn't even consider the chance that talking to Variks could screw up some totally unrelated quest. -blam!-ing Bungie strikes again. And trust me, I've checked my quests.. it is long gone, not in abandoned quests, either.
