I just read a little post on #OffTopic not long ago, linking me to another post made by DeeJ himself.
What I read, I did not like.
Not in the fucking slightest.
The following is that post, made by DeeJ around 9 - 10 hours previous of me writing this.
Hey there, Community.
At Bungie, we’re committed to making our website a safe, well-lit place for the community. As the engaged innkeepers of Bungie.net, we’ve learned that accountability is a great ingredient in the recipe for a healthy community. When a user has some personal investment associated with their account, they’re more likely to take pride in the way they communicate with other people.
Since its inception and throughout various evolutions, Bungie.net has served a community that shares a game. The game (Destiny, for example) is the thing we all have in common – the unifying element that brings us together in the first place. In order to ensure that the end-users who are accessing the public forums on Bungie.net have a greater interest in the quality of the conversation, we’re going to require that each account be linked to a Guardian with some player history. At current, that includes more than 99% of our active community.
Bungie.net accounts are free, easy to make, and easy to link to your playable character. Your access to the public forums is tied to your Guardian, but your account can still be used to enjoy many of the free social features that we provide. If you’re not playing Destiny, you’ll still have access to Private Groups.
If you’re a new user who is seeking support from us on the #Help forum, you can find some instructions on how to create and link an account here: https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Article/12130
If you need assistance with creating your account, let us know here: https://www.bungie.net/en/Help/Troubleshoot?oid=13633
It is our hope that you’ll enjoy a long stay in our online home. Throw down some roots. Make some friends. Play some games. Be excellent to each other.
DeeJ, out.

Bungie, there is no way possible for you to try and defend this decision.
To put it in smaller form;
If you have a b.net account and own Destiny, but have not linked your XBL/PSN account, you will be banned.
If you have a b.net account and have it linked to your XBL/PSN account, but do not own Destiny, you will be banned.
That's what really gets me.
The fact that non-Destiny owners get locked out of about 90% of the forum features is absolutely infuriating.
That means, if you don't own Destiny but want to use the forums, (Most of #OffTopic) then you'd better pay up.
That's locking your forums behind a $40 - $60 paywall, as well as firmly planting your boot in the mouths of an estimated 50% of your community.
The people that got you here, the people who supported you up until now, the people who loved you;
Gone.
Damn near all of them.
Banned, stuck behind that wall.
The worst part?
There's nothing anyone can do to stop this.
Once that slip of paper gets drawn from the hat, it's done.
No amount of petitions could change their minds.
My mind is just running the same thing through my head right now;
Happy guy, walking up some stairs.
That guy sets foot on the top stair, and is immediately blown apart by a double-barrel shotgun.
That's where your actions have gotten you, Bungie.
You move up the ladder, only to hit the snake on your next roll.
You want feedback?
You'll get just that. Except this time, don't expect me to fucking sugarcoat anything.
I would love to see either CM defend this shit.
Come on, gimme a good laugh.
Anarchy, out.

Edited by gallp13: 10/1/2015 11:19:09 AMThis is an excellent initiative and one I whole hearted support. Great move Bungie - keep the forums for those who play Destiny.
