If you see this post in another thread that because I decided to copy my reply and repost it as another thread.
I play a titan regularly since he is my only character. Dont want to start up any other characters since I only have time to run one character a week, and i really dont want to sit through that god awful story again. So I know my way around the titan subclass really well. Hammer of Sol is a tricky beast when it comes to balancing because in one super you have the damage reduction of sunsinger, the range and explosive power of nova bomb, and with the right set up, a blazing fast hammer swing that mirrors blade dancer. So it is hard to figure out where to look.
Well lets start with the easy one first. The 30 thousand rage of the gods mode hammer throwing glitch definitely needs to be fixed. If someone masters it perfectly there is little way to counter in pvp, and it will melt bosses in pve removing much of the challenge.
Now looking at the damage reduction. While running my titan in the crucible I choose a high armor stat typically. I've noticed while activating my hammer of sol I have been one shot by golden gun, and in other cases its taken a two shots to bring me down. Whats the difference? My chest plate. My chest plate gives me increased armor while using a solar subclass so when using hammer of sol, its a similar effect as a sunsinger wearing the ram i.e. my armor stat goes though the roof. So maybe the chest plate needs to be looked at instead.
Finally about the hammer itself. I'm going to compare it to golden gun since many people keep comparing it to that super even though I think it acts more like a rapid fire nova bomb. Golden gun is a hit-scan super with unrivaled range, and it has no damage reduction. The super was designed to be used at a range over close quarters. Since it hit-scan, the shot has no travel time so when you shoot someone with golden gun they die immediately. Hammer of Sol, similar to Nova Bomb. Needs to be thrown similar to a grenade. It also has a slow travel time, and requires a very close hit in order to kill from my experience. So its designed for close quarters over long range, and it needs that blast radius and additional hammers in order to make up for the travel time and lower range when compared to golden gun. Maybe the forge master perk can be tweaked slightly in order to balance out the with the other supers but overall it doesn't need a major overhaul like I see some people demanding.
Also some tips on surviving it. Take the titan out from a range and stay moving. I've dodged many hammers by jumping due to the travel time. Or you could sneak up on him with a high powered shot gun. That works really well too. I've done that many times and it has happened to me a lot. Finally if you see a sunbreaker coming your way, maybe run away. Running at a guy who is as angry as thor after stubbing his toe while also being on fire is just a terrible life choice, and you will get killed.
And to the people calling for nerfs, can we please talk about a constructive way to balance the class without destroying it. Many seem to want the class to be completely ruined because of it being OP in some aspects right now.
Oh well this is just what I think. and if you made to the end of the post thanks for reading.

Why is pve players always punished for PvP crap ? I PVE yet I get nerf due to some PVP crap . Why is the game only focused on PvP and the pve players have to deal with what happens . It's not crying Bungie done this since Sep 9 it's old . In Bungie own words the game was PVE based yet all of the destiny world gets nerfed due to PvP what a joke

Edited by BraddyBo: 10/5/2015 6:10:33 PMIts needs to be nerfed. BUT the way it should be nerfed is to completely remove damage resistance. Make it easier to die like gunslinger. THATS IT. Nerfing it further would be a shame but keeping it the same just isnt fair.
-
A shorter time on warlocks and Hunter supers . Damage nerf on warlock and stop the Hunter void from removing supers. O wait you don't like your toons being jacked up by Bungie either . I only use striker and void on titan now Sun is pointless
-
Limit to 3 hammers and choice of damage reduction or quick recharge, maybe 4 hammers idk
-
Best fix is just to remove the super over shield Titans gain when the super is popped, make them more vulnerable like gun slingers, easy fix. Not talking about sun spots those are just a good strat.

GG does have damage drop off at range, and it becomes increasingly hard to hit at range with the smaller hitbox FYI. This class desperately needs to be balanced though... it is completely broken currently... Damage reduction, instant health regen(akin to red death) and one hit kills. My time in crucible has taught me to run from this super every time and to NEVER counter unless my bow is up... and even then I've had two hammers immune to my bow... which is supposed to shut down any super when tethered. I disagree on the slow travel time of the hammers... they work like grenades and can travel quite fast. Being on the receiving in sucks to be frank. My thoughts from watching and playing against in pvp. Health regen needs a serious delay.. it is literally red-death style instant regen on kills and is insane. Say the guy is down to 50hp and gets a kill? He instantly is at full health again while under fire... so all the work to kill him is negated. If this is actually a glitch then it needs to be fixed even more. AOE of hammers should be lowered slightly... it's not terrible, but it's kinda silly how it is now. It seems a bit larger than the splash from vortex grenades. Damage reduction? Meh? I see no issues here really... even sunsingers can be downed in this mode. Overall super time needs to be adjusted to hammers used or something... it's broken now, along with stormcallers... I've gone in as a stormcaller and completely wrecked a team twice over while they were doing their best just to shoot at me... it lasted stupid long. I mean the concept is good, but it's very unbalanced compared to other supers... almost godlike with the health regen.

The travel time is little faster than nova bomb, but less blast radius. Titans should be a tank class, but a simple solution is to limit the throws like golden gun. If GG had their super energy as the only timely figure and can shot until energy runs out, it would be considered op, but 3-4 shots and short time for super with no dmg resistance offers many counters. The sunbreaker lasts longer than GG, has huge dmg resistance, has more than 3-4 hammer throws, has short travel time, but combustion perk makes up for that, and has the ability to heal. I understand bungie wants to make the new subclasses desirable, but taking away the weaknesses of other classes and giving all the benefits seems a little unfair?

Sounds similar when they nerfed the hunter's arc blade...

Omg someone that actually understand the titan thank you

It's a super. It's supposed to cause devastation and destruction in its path. Yes I main a titan. But I know the other classes well. I play crucible and die by sunbreakers all the time. Do I care? No, it's no different than when I meet a stormcaller. I'm almost certain to die. Each class has a way around the super. Nightstalker cancels it, fist of havoc wins over hammer of sol every time I should know cause that's what I always run. As for warlocks... I just Don't like you that much
-
Another thing you forgot to mention is that sunbreaker can have as much recovery as warlocks when maxed out plus additional armor warlocks can not reach. They need to leave the stat scaling the same for all three classes.
-
Anytime anything exciting and awe inspiring gets dropped in someone's arsenal, everyone else demands it get taken away. Instead of nerfing the hammer, what if other supers got buffs so they could compete? That, to me, sounds like a much more appealing solution. I've said it before, and I'll say it again. This is not Call of Duty In Space!
-
They could just make it like gunslinger. Three hammers and a timer to use them.
-
I agree and I play as A striker agility/armor build but in my opinion the blast radius could use a slight nerf and the lock on abikity could use it as well. Other wise its farely easy ta dodge at range and a fusion rifle deals with it pretty quickly.

Well spoken actually, You elaborated this very well. (i am a warlock only).
And to the people calling for nerfs, can we please talk about a constructive way to balance the class without destroying it. Many seem to want the class to be completely ruined because of it being OP in some aspects right now.
People don't know how to do that in here. Hence why as far as I'm concerned, the balance hashtag needs to be done away with, and any cries about nerfing need to be squelched. All of this incessant whining is destroying the game for everyone, and it's only coming from a vocal and obnoxious minority of PvP scrubs who can't make the cut, or think that their arbitrary KDR entitles them to dictate how everyone plays their game.
