Why don't people understand how RNG works? Random. Please look up the word. I think TS is onto something. And why wouldn't bungie put it into lesser played strikes? How random was the Black Spindle?

  • The number that is generated might be random. The probability ranges that are assigned to the potential outcomes are not random.

  • Pick a number between one and the number of destiny players x 5? Like that?

  • No. The number generation is random so let's use 10! For example (that is 10x9x8x7x6x5x4x3x2x1) so that is the random number generated for the Thagomizers. So to every Ultra in the game let's say there is a 2! Is assigned to all those Ultras EXCEPT Valus Ta'urn. His is let's say 8! So 10!/8! There is a higher chance it will drop for him as opposed to it dropping at 10!/2! So you're chance at getting said exotic would be 1 in 10!/2! Which is (10x9x8x7x6x5x4x3)Because that's the value set for the Thagomizers. But if you do Valus. And it is 10!/8! Then it is only (10x9). Now I'm no expert in RNG or computer science and coding but that's how permutations and probability work, I could be way off. I'm just using my knowledge to the best of my ability to help you understand

Think of the probability assignment of a piece of gear like a range. My experience with random number generators is that they return a fraction between 0 and 1. Lets say Thagomizers are assigned a success probability range of 0.1 to 0.2. The program generates a random number. If the random number is 0.15, it is within the Thagomizers probability range. Happy days. If the random number is 0.3, it's outside the range, no joy. So the random number generated is random. But the probability range for success could be assigned, and in fact weighted differently for different items. I have my suspicions that Gjallerhorn had a very narrow probability range.
