Bungie has always listened to its players and while I have always agreed with most of their balancing decisions, myself and my fireteam mates all feel they have made a small error in the cost of upgrading an exotic from year one. We worked hard. Ground away. Played in some cases thousands of hours to get these weapons to drop. Now not only are they basically worthless, we are forced to grind away again to make those same rewards viable in the game again.
If you want to upgrade your exotics it costs 150 legendary marks. At first we all thought "Oh that's not too bad", but now after a couple of weeks of grinding away trying to get light levels high enough to enable you to be able to even play end game content, we realize we have not been able to accumulate enough legendary marks to upgrade even a single year one exotic.
So those of us who think Bungie should either:
1. Make legendary marks easier to aquire.
Or
2. Lower the cost of upgrading year one exotics.
Please chime in here. And if you have other ideas for how this could be achieved, feel free to add those comments.
Edit:
So after reading all the many responses I have seen the other side of this issue. More play time equals more marks. I have gotten some good advice on how to get Marks as quickly as possible. Thanks everyone for participating. It seems my issue is simply lack of available play time. I suppose I just need to accept that it will take me a lot longer in actual calendar time than people with more free time. The Three of Coins is becoming a lot more attractive.

I'm just baffled it costs a shard to upgrade exotics.... each time....especially y1 ones. if I didn't already waste shards maxing them now I have to buy/roll them at 280/290 and buff them 2-3 times to get 300+. where am I supposed to get the 10 shards I need for weapon/armor/class item?
-
They should just bring back turning in materials for marks and rep/exp. Adds a little incentive and easier way to get marks
-
One thing they need to change is the amount of materials you get for buying them 10 marks for only 20 is not worth like i sometimes to lazy to get that last 3 relic iron to max out my weapon but not willing to part with 10 marks either lower it to 5 or increase the amount of materials its easy for me for certain materials to gather due to my ghost but i dont have one for every single one

Couldn't agree more.By the way,Bungie lied to us😠.They told us that we could earn as many Legendary Marks in a week...yeah that soon went out the window.I am not salty but I wish Bungie would make up their minds and stick to it.I don't care if a weapon is OP or a super is OP!!!Everyone has the same chance to get every weapon and develop a character. Its BS all the nerfs FFS!! So yeah,I fully support your post.
-
Really? You can get up for 45 per player. So if you have three characters you get over 100 marks in 1 day yo!
-
Got hawkmoon year 2(before xur) -_- Monte Carlo And a bunch of vender gear I thought looked cool. And infused a lot of stuff.
but I agree with you.
-
You are right.
-
Dude you're arguing that you shouldn't have to play this game (that you apparently don't like because you don't have fun playing it) to get what you want in this game. The progression system gets easier, you don't need to cry on the forums whenever you have trouble. I personally haven't had any trouble getting marks.
-
Damn someone hates a grind.
-
Yeah I don't have alot of time to play too. I usually only get an hour or two at a time to play. So kind of annoyingly i gotta spend my hour just doing the pvp and daily to get marks, leaving only a little time to do things like the Taken war or getting a sword. Wish there was a somewhat friendlier way for casuals to get marks. Used to be way easier in year one.
-
I agree 100%. There have been two grinds as far as year 1 exotics go. Now we have to do it again? I can purchase a 2nd year 2 exotic for 1 shard and glimmer, shouldn't it be the other way around? Having said that, I don't have a problem getting Legendary Marks but I do think they bungled the Y1/Y2 exotic process.
-
I've gotten Saint 14 and bad juju so it's not that bad.
-
I've had some time to grind, already got my Truth and Thunderlord 2.0, next will be Saint-14
-
It is kind of ridiculous. Days I work in addition to school I absolutely have no time to do all the daily activities if I want to achieve any kind of questing. I wish you got a small amount EVERY strike but meh. That would exploited by people who play 8 hrs a day.
-
I would like to see bounty rewards, from the post master, say "random rewards" and sometimes they will drop 5 marks at random. The problem im having, is im just spending marks for the sake of spending :/ idk what i want. So i always end up running out, so maybe my opinion is invalid. Just feels like we should be able earn marks in a few other places here and there.

Daily cruicible match. 10 for one 15 for the other. 25 marks just from 2 games if cruicible. It used to be you needed to play between 5 to 9 games(depends on if you win or lose) to get so many marks! I think the ammount we get is fine
-
heroic strikes, daily heroic, daily crucible, weekly crucible, dismantle other legendarys(3 marks per scrap). plenty of resources and if you have enough time to grind for hours on end, there is no way in hell it can be that hard.
-
I spend legendary marks of farm materials... That is how frequently I get them. Stop complaining and play the game
-
I just spent 150 marks on a hand cannon so I could dismantle it and get an ace of spades. I didn't hesitate at all. Marks are very easy to get
-
Do not be tempted to "get them all". Just focus on a few great weapons and upgrade these.
-
It is super easy to get marks. You can 30 a day really easy. Then there is both the crucible playslist and strike playlist for another 60 per week. Not too mention the marks from dismantling ledges.
-
I used to share your opinion, but after playing TTK and seeing the new weapons I'm fine with just using them. If a particular exotic makes sense for me to spend the marks on I'll do it, like I did to get Truth. It took me a little over a week to get the 150 marks, so not too bad. I can see what Bungie was thinking though as they didn't want everyone to buy all the exotics within the first month of TTK launching. Could obtaining marks be a bit easier to do each week, sure, but at least this way it'll end up extending the game while we wait for D2.
-
I disagree with this, because: 1. You shouldn't be able to use exotics until you are max character level anyway. 2. Legendary marks are easy enough to get that you can upgrade at least 1 item a week if you want. You have the ability to get at least 25 marks a day x 6 days = 150 marks. 3. They need to continue making things hard to get, or else the satisfaciton level will take a huge hit. I don't know about most people, but I enjoy going after the gear as much as having it. After all, the ultimate purpose of having gear is so you can go get more gear. As a side note: Year 2 hasn't even been live for a month. There's plenty of stuff to get and plenty of time to get it. I think people are comparing themselves too often to other people who are on this game 10-12hrs a day. That's all my opinion though.
-
Rank up your gunsmith on all your characters too the guns he offers are normally trash so 3 rank 3 gunsmiths would be an extra 27 marks per week
-
How have you not gotten enough shards? I've had enough in two weeks to infuse gear, buy both year 2 Hawkmoon and Last word, and still have marks left over. I don't even try to get the marks from crucible. Just dismantle legendary gear after leveling it up. Legends ried are so frequent now it's easy. You'll get 50-100 in a week just from legendary gear, not to mention all the quests and daily/ weekly events give you marks. What I'm upset about are exotic shards. If I dismantle a year 1 exotic I should get an exotic shard
-
I call BS. You can get 30 marks per day EASILY by doing the daily events. Plus the new Crucible mode marks (30 possible per week), plus heroic strike completions (30 marks per week), plus Nightfall (10 marks per week) plus dismantling legendary items (3 for unleveled, 5 for fully unlocked), plus completion of quests (variable - usually around 10 to 20 per). I use ToC to get exotic drops mostly since they drop at 290 and if you buy them you're only starting out at 280. It's random, but works for me. I've purchased the new Suros Regime as well as the Dead Orbit scout Hung Jury. After today's daily missions I'll be back over 150 again - and that is with doing A LOT OF INFUSING (costs 3 marks per infusion). I feel the policy Bungie put into place reduces the feel of it being a grind (having to do everything 3 times) and also keeps you interested in playing daily to get the marks.
