So it just crossed my mind, we killed Atheon a raid boss who was worshipped as a god by the vex. We also killed crota the son of Oryx who is considered the hive's god which makes crota a god(if he's a pure breed). Then now we kill Oryx the god of the taken and the hive. So my question is how many "gods" do we have to kill before the end of the game? We now the next dlc: Forge of Gods is about the return of the cabal but is there a cabal god or something along those lines we have to kill? Also the dlc is most likely about vex, so will there also be another vex god like atheno we have to kill? So how many do you think we have to kill guardians?
Just this up while looking through the forums.
Note: I didn't add skolas because he isn't considered a god but more on the lines as a evil tribe leader than a actually god.
Edit: okay servitors are considered gods to the fallen only because the servitors communicate with the darkness but they still aren't raid bosses. Maybe they may get raid but that wouldn't be a for awhile. Also Atheon isn't considered a god but he went against his "god"(black heart) and so he was basically trapped in the VoG but he also had some followers that followed him(not talking about the Templar or the gorgons).
Edit: guess this post hit 100 replies... I guess that's awesome, really glad to see people actually interested in the lore of the game and are willing to discuss this topic like civilized humans(not like the rest of the forum). Yeah so thanks and keep giving your point of view on this topic.

Well, to start with atheon, atheon isn't fully dead in terms of vex. He is just dead in this current timeline. In order for us to kill him fully, we would have to travel back to the black garden, and kill him in every single time strand in the black garden represented by every single flower planted within the garden, which is if I remember correctly, over 10,000,000. Not to mention certain timelines have different events occur, where in some if the more distant timelines from our, we might not even live on earth, and therefore, we may be no more powerful than an ant compared to the species the vex are combating in the timeline, and we could be killed by them killing the vex, and coming into our time strand. Now onto the hive. The hive are a polytheistic group, meaning they worship many gods and goddesses. Crota has siblings, and so does oryx. Oryx's siblings likely have children, and they're not even the most powerful. The worm gods, which are technically not hive but are still worshiped by them, allow the hive gods and death singers to exist in several different realms. They exist in one realm at a time, the most powerful being their throne realm, but after they die in one, they move onto the next. We killed crota in his throne realm, so consider him as good as dead because he is not anymore powerful than a knight with a boomer and a sword in our realm. Oryx, we killed in our realm with that first fight against him. I'm pretty sure the raid is based in his throne realm but am not positive. Anyway, until we kill a hive god in every single realm (we don't understand most of them, but toland seems quite advanced in it), or if we kill a hive god and keep the deathsingers from moving his essence into the next realm, or we kill the worm gods, then try live. The fallen are just plain aliens with a different style of government, but a Kell can e replaced, but for the most part the fallen really arnt the bad guys in this whole thing. They were really advanced, and they had the traveler first. For whatever reason the traveler came to us, and now that want it back, but we can't give it back because it's protecting us from the three other enemies, plus it's pretty cool all the powers we get as guardians, like living forever as long as our ghost has it's light. The cabal we don't know much about. It's an empire with an intriquite ranking system, and when one emperor dies, another likely just steps up to power. I don't believe they have gods, seeing as they don't really seem like moral creatures, but we won't really know until we have the technology to travel to their system. I hope I was able to help! Any other questions, or if I was unclear just ask.

Remember when you get to the heart of the black garden and ghost asks, "think you can slay a god?" Yeah I guess we found out.

The last of the gods will be deej eris has been collecting the fragments of gods crota oryx to enfuse with him makeing him a god the final raid well have to fight xur first boss and we have to drop strange coins from the ceiling onto him in order to do damage to him then the cryptarch and we use green engrams then blue engrams and legendary next till the fourth round and we pick up exotic engrams to finish him off till we face deej and to defeat him we have to seprerate bungie and Activision from each other in order to shoot him with nerfhorn
-
A giant servitor 3x times bigger than sepkis and his cousins.
-
Well if Activision has anything to do with it I'd say about 100,000 gods to kill? Lol kidding, I'd say about 10 to 15 maybe (raids) to end the game
-
As many as it takes. We are guardians, and that is what we do!

Think about it this way. How many gods does humanity have? Kill the greek gods and the romans make more, kill those and the catholics make more, kill those and science becomes it's own. Kill all the gods you want, the hive will always have another god. The Al'Akhul strike talks about him wanting to dethrone Oryx, so there is already a succession mechanic in place for the hive, biggest baddie rules. The Fallen don't deal well with loss, hence their scavenger, disorganized nature, but I'd expect an organized house to come in from out of the system at some point and show us what they can really do. The Vex don't have gods or identity, only function, so they will find a way to repair the loss of Atheon (like they tried with the Nexus mind) via the time stream or they will adapt around the loss. Who knows, maybe they allow this timeline to persist because they needed Atheon destroyed... The Cabal are militaristic. They will always establish a hierarchy. The main command will promote new leaders. If we ever kill the absolute top of the cabal command they would eventually establish a new order. So there should always be enemies to fight, we will cripple the minions of the darkness, but it will be a very long time before we "win".

Don't forget the black garden mission and take it from Dinklenot "you think you can kill a god?"
-
Too many gods 7.8/10
-
Boring ass fake gods give us a real threat. We all know gods are fake
-
The cabal raid boss is the commanding officer on Mars. I got a Titan artifact that reads "this is the only clue the vanguard has about the commanding officer in Mars" or something like that. Either that or another Vex boss
-
Ugh.... The lore person.inside of me wants to correct you
-
Cause we live in the future and religion is a thing of the past and responsible for wars. Soon we will fight sea otters that ride ostriches
-
Cabal don't have gods they are more like an army... They will have leaders vs gods.

If you do recall I believe there are more enemies to kill when they show. Like Nokris. Many won't know him and that's understandable because it's missable to find such info but think at the regicide mission right before you enter the doorway to face Oryx the statues around the opening doorway. Crota was on the right while Oryx was the middle however the right was someone who we never faced or heard of. That was Nokris if you scanned the statues
-
Keep in mind. These are "gods" in the eyes of our enemies. I personally only think oryx is the only God we've destroyed. Crota was the gods process prince. Atheon and the vex were trying to become some kind of law of reality in order to be good themselves. This is how I see it at least.

Edited by deadpunk69: 9/27/2015 5:31:33 PMWait.... gods... war.... spartans... -blam!-...... cratos is the next raid boss, he will spam x and kill us all!!!!!
-
The cabal are alot like the Spartans very much centered on warfare they essentially worshipped the same gods as the Greeks so I would venture to assume that they would have a warlike god in the ranks
-
It seems to me like the Hive and Vex have "Gods" but the Fallen and Cabal have kings and emperors.
-
Heart of the black garden was a god wasn't it
-
I think that the raid for cabal will be to assassinate like a cabal emperor or something not a god.
-
What about all the servitor gods we have slain ? Do they not get a part of this post
-
Is Atheon considered a god? I don't think he is.
-
When you beat Oryx you'll get a Grimore card that addresses this
-
I think Atheons dad will be looking for us.
