I’m not sure whether many people have seen this interview yet, Gamespot picked up on it briefly. I originally posted this as a response but was encouraged to make it as a separate topic. It holds some important insight into Bungie's consideration for it's players both TTK and non-TTK alike and is the first time we have heard them speak about the lockout.
Bungie don’t really seem to care about the game they shipped out. Luke Smith in an interview with Kotaku admitted that they knew Destiny was flawed on release: “When that went out the door, we were not thrilled with it.” He claims they were already overhauling the levelling system in Oct 2014, knowing they messed up. Of course Luke Smith's past controversy gave him a free pass to not answer the ‘if you knew that, then why did players have to pay $140 to get to this point?' question, typical!
“Our hope this year is with The Taken King we’ve shed a little light on the potential of a game in the Destiny universe.” So after a year, he hopes that a DLC will show the 'potential'? Potential?! Hello!?! You've already got the game in that universe aren't you a bit beyond just showing the potential?! Kind of expensive potential too…
He also addressed the lockout, saying they knew users would be angry and it sounds like they most likely knew explaining beforehand would cause trouble so they didn’t:
“The reactions to that stuff, the frustrations are not surprising to us, I think we didn’t do a good job of explaining that ahead of time...We also haven’t done a great job of explaining what is content that players own and what’s programmed content—things that are subject to change.”
But of course he offered no elaboration, so TTK players should be wary, as they are most likely to see content disappear under the guise of this excuse in the future without notice!
He explained that 'two different endgames is beyond what could be expected of them' - but no one is asking for this. I think what's apparent from the interview is that they skew what the community says to benefit them, they claim we expect this which is untrue, what is apparent from this forum is that players would like returned what they removed.
More interesting was the fact that he seemed to lie about what was still available, “If players don’t buy TTK they have a bunch of year one endgame content that they can do but the programming and stuff is going to change and the programme is going to move forward.” So where are the heroic modifiers on story missions and the rest of the strike playlists? Those are year one endgame content which have been removed. There is currently no endgame content except for level 40 players.
On the feedback side, there is no excuse for this in the first place, they knew there was an issue yet it still occurred. BUT for the sake of those still playing, they deserve to know what is subject to change.

To say I am disappointed is an understatement. Over 100 for the game and prior upgrades, only to lose content. What a terrible way to reward those who have battled through the initial release and all the bugs that came with it, not to mention the money invested in expansion packs that were hardly worth the money. Props to BUNGIE for managing to screw loyal gamers out of time and money. Thief!

Bungie as a game company has gone to shit, its rather sad because I and many others see the untapped potential of the game and cringe that the developers are so shitty and fail to realize the true potential the game has with their lazy ass approach to recycling and padding half assed content.
“The reactions to that stuff, the frustrations are not surprising to us, I think we didn’t do a good job of explaining that ahead of time...We also haven’t done a great job of explaining what is content that players own and what’s programmed content—things that are subject to change.”
Fuc k you! Its called fraud you greedy moron! You all Failed to disclose the mandatory purchases down the road and that renders the whole EULA a sham since you willingly withheld critical information to boost sales before we agreed to the EULA. "Its not surprising to us" Yet you don't have the -blam!-ing stones to address us directly. I'd seek a refund if I could even though I enjoy the game with its faults.

What I hear is a guy who has learned (the hard way) what happens when he goes wading into some of these controversial topics as someone who is NOT a paid community manager. So he is being deliberately vague and conciliatory, in his effort to avoid stirring up controversy. ...and even THAT, you choose to use as a way to gin up anger and controversy. So its a basically a no-win situation for Bungie short of CAVING and giving people what they essentially haven't (and refuse) to pay for. Frankly I disagree with Luke. I think Bungie did a VERY good job of communicating that the Nightfall and Weekly strikes were NOT part of the base content of the game. ITS JUST THAT----AS USUAL----PEOPLE AROUND HERE CHOOSE TO IGNORE WHAT THEY DON'T WISH TO HEAR. The only thing that Bungie COULD have done better was to make it STONE CLEAR that----because of the new Quest system, and the massive increase in Guardian power that was going to come with TTK, that there was not going to be any way of continuing to progress peole along who chose not to buy it. ...and NO, he didn't lie about what end game you hvae. You still have access to both raids...and both HARD raids. Plus you have the Prison of Elders. What you DON"T have access to are the EVENTS (Nightfall, Heroic strikes, Daily Missions) that are based on content Bungie ALTERS for the benefit of players who are at or near the game's highest level. Which Year One player are now NOWHERE NEAR TO BEING. A Level 34, light 170 Guardian would even be able to even DAMAGE any of hte enemies in the Year Two end game. Even the Daily MISSIon (Light 240) is over your heads now. You'd need to be a MINIMUM of Light 200 to even DAMAGE any of the enemies in a level 40 or 41 Story mission or Quest. You'd be in the same situation as a level 10 Guardian trying to take on those Hive Major below the Steppes in the Cosmodrome.

Most constructive thread I think I've ever read on this forum w/ lots of good, civil discussion. Well done sir!!! Bump for the Truth

This guy can kiss my ass with his lies.

Ok, so now that I've actually listened to the entire podcast... (Ugh) I love how they try to downplay the fact that their forum feedback is just constantly flooded with negative input from players. But I guess that doesn't count as anything unless you have a few million just outright quit, huh Luke? "I took Fatebringer through the paces one last time and then put it in the vault where it will stay for many years." What kind of -blam!-ing bullshit is THAT? You know and then he goes on about the fans pointing out flaws for them to make improvements and yet here we are blowing up their forums BACK WHEN THE DARK BELOW WAS RELEASED regarding vanilla weapons and armor being able to continue upgrading. And how could they NOT KNOW about all this other shit? Learn what? How the -blam!- do they NOT already know half of this shit that he's talking about? Have they NEVER played a god damn game outside of their own little studio? There is just so much -blam!-ed up about this interview. It made me want to have a fist fight with Luke, not even joking. I'd even let him get the first swing. Dude refuses to say two words here on their own forums to defend anything that they have done, maybe he would respond better letting his actions speak for him like he said in the Game Informer Interview. I couldn't even listen to it all in one go, it took me so long to write this comment because I had to consistently keep pausing and taking a moment to drown out the over abundance of sheer arrogance that drove me nuts. My anger skyrocketed each time he opened his mouth. Its 100% BULLSHIT. Just keep on riding that hype train. Someone needs to just derail this thing already.

I completely agree. And it makes me so mad to hear the rich kids and people who love supporting these two companies screw us over. One thing people cannot understand is that it's not the price tag people are complaining about, it's the fact that they screwed over the players. You make DLC to grab some more money? Fair enough. But don't make it to the point where people NEED to buy it to enjoy playing. That's what nobody seems to be able to understand. I miss the days when DLC was a couple of map packs.
-
What game goes in and does hours of downloads when you turn it on prior to a dlc before you've even purchased it, what the hells that about, if it's about servers they should have kept them separate. I suspect it's not by the not even subtle change, you shouldn't see any change until you've purchased. It's clear to me by the way they integrated ttk that they are just a slimey backhanded company. These kids that don't care now may care one day when they are paying for their kids per session or continuously paying for games they thought they had already paid for. Not about the 40 bucks, good value if you look at the hours you could get, that's a silly argument people are putting forth, it's akin to saying " oh you bought a new xbox 1 and the thing died on you after a year but you got your monies worth in hours didn't you ? ". On the other hand I can see how some of these kids are oblivious if they didn't spend any time on the game without the dlc or maybe they are just used to being herded to the paying queue and getting what they want without a thought, after saying that I know there are a lot of exceptions
-
lol they promised two different end games when they launched. crucible and the raids. you get dope gear pve and go into crucible to show it off. these guys are scam artists for real. not to mention they have the raid and trails. is that not two different end games? oh and iron banner. wtf is wrong with these people

Edited by Rho'gath: 9/29/2015 11:47:10 PMYou know, I wanted to make a shared world shooter (MMO x FPS) since I was around 8, it's what I have been going to Uni to study game design to do, so when I saw that Bungie was making Destiny 10 years later I got excited... Having now played Destiny since beta I can confidently say that my 8 year old self had a more solid game design then Destiny does
-
The endgame content are the two raids. You wouldn't get access to ttk endgame.
-
Edited by CKWK8241021: 10/5/2015 5:39:41 PMYear 1 was a BETA. Been saying this since last September. They wanted to make sure they could establish a player base to justify dumping millions into the game for a 10 year period.

Ok simply put for those moaning about the non TTK lockout what did you expect why should those who pay for it get nothing more than those who don't and bungie made the game and started with the original concept everyone knew from day one this game would be ever growing and changing to make it into what it will become in the ten year plan
-
lots of bungies customers are clearly very upset with bungies choice to screw them over just to bump sales a little.
-
"Integrity" and "Bungie" (add "Activision into the mix) don't belong in the same sentence.
-
Everything they say just makes me dislike them even more. This company is complete trash from top to bottom. They lost all respect/future money from me. If people can't see exactly what they think about us they are severely addicted or blind.
-
Bumpfortruth destiny continues to hide more bullshit. I love how from the release, until this interview, Luke has been telling every one that the game is fine and nothing is wrong, now he's just like, yeah year one was a mess but we wouldn't admit it at the time, but the game is "fine" now and even though it's "fine" we are gonna make the majority of content subject to change and probably lock you out if you don't buy each step. I'm so glad I quit.
-
I still don't understand what you mean..... If you think about it all your content is there. Unless you bought destiny for Eris's bounties.
-
-
This new era of gaming has to end before it begins...bump
-
What I got from the interview- "We don't know wtf were doing" - Bungie
-
Bump this up. Valuable info for the community.
-
Well articulated, well researched. Bump and +1.

Bungie have you all addicted to their game and like addicts they will keep feeding you little chunks of their content for a large price ensuring you stay addicted and have no money to go buy from another dealer and maybe try a new product. ESO was my methadone and its worked, i no longer play Destiny i did not buy TTK and now im also playing GTA5 and MGSV with the money i did not throw at the tv screen.
