Hawk moon was my very first exotic I got on week one of destiny back on PS3. I got it from a legendary engram that dropped from a level 8 thrall on the devils lair strike on earth, and that was back when legendary engrams weren't even guarantied to give a legendary item.

Yep, I earned my hawkmoon from an engram given to me by the cryptarch from the veteran quest. Totally earned it.
