I am trying to complete the quest for the legendary sword but every time I find a chest on the dreadnought I only get glimmer. Also when I collect wormspore it does not show up in my inventory. Any suggestions?

Perhaps you do not have any available slots to fill? Check to make sure you have room in your inventory. I don't think these materials go to the Postmaster when the slots are full.
