Apparently the scandal keeps on continuing. As I was reading some articles today, I came across the following:
http://www.gamesradar.com/bungie-says-theres-no-10-year-plan-destiny/
I'll put an excerpt here for those who don't care to go read the entire article:
"In the latest issue of Edge, Bungie community and marketing relations manager Eric ‘Urk’ Osborne reveals a ten-year agreement does exist, but it's not quite what you think: "Those things were so distracting, and not about the experience we were creating," he says in the latest issue of Edge. "It just became the narrative. I mean, I drive a Honda Civic. I don’t know shit about $500 million. A ten-year plan? It’s a ten-year partnership agreement. It has nothing to do with the development of the game proper. To think that somehow, before Destiny had shipped, we had some ten-year plan written down somewhere? It’s comical."
This should definitely prove to everybody, precisely what these people think about their player base (i.e. customers). This is not exactly what I would label as a "bright outlook". People always talk about politicians being poor with the doublespeak and backtracking; well this essentially fits the same classification.
If the $500m budget and 10 year contracts were truly not for a Destiny series in and of itself, then why was it repeatedly told to the public, not to mention consumers for a period of many years, before the game was even released?
Edit: A big thanks to everybody who helped contribute to this whole discussion throughout the last two days. Yes DeeJ, even you helped, in more ways than you know. Quite a few of you helped to clarify the situation surrounding this recent revelation, choosing to spend time to go back through gaming forums, websites, and Youtube to find where Bungie's own personnel made statements related to the 10 years of Destiny work, and for that you have my appreciation. Many of those things I was once aware of (hence my immediate inclination to even write this post inititally), but I had forgotten their immediate locations over time.
How many people we reached anew with this sort of discussion remains unknown, but it has proven that we all have quite a bit of unity when it pertains to this type of subject which affects an entire gaming community, including outside of Destiny itself. We may very well be a minority here in the forums, as a lot of people have liked to inform us the last couple of months, but Rome was not built in a day either. If we have even gained one single person, that can now recognize that this type of business model cannot be allowed to stand in this industry, then the time we have invested was worth it.

They've had both feet in since Joe Staten quit their sorry asses back in 2013. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bD80DQv2o44

Aaand Bungie is prepping the lifeboats, but trying to cover it up by saying non-answer BS like "I drive a Honda Civic, I know nothing about $500 million". Urk, you're the game's lead! It's your job to know about that sh*t!

Edited by Thane: 9/22/2015 12:43:39 AMHmm wasn't it obvious from the beginning ?? The game never established anything, never earned its purchase price with proper quality content and keeps on pissing off the player-base with each so called expansion. So it was only a matter of time before this scam fails. Even the younger audience that they wanted to prey on has a short attention span. Win/captivate the people with a quality product and you earn their TRUE loyalty/support for a long time. Lie/mistreat/manipulate them and all your game will be capable off is bleed more players. "10 years plan" my ass, i never saw a third year for this game to be honest .....
-
More people needa see this. First they said it's a 10 year game, then a franchise, now its a 10 year partnership? I call bullshit, as they've changed their definition 2 too many times. Cheap greedy assholes.
-
There is absolutely a ten year plan. Ten years of trying to get as many dollars from your wallet for as little content they can get away with.

I would have loved to have seen this headline get legs a year ago. I said these things to whomever would listen. It just didn't get repeated so enthusiastically until now. We intend to make Destiny for a long time. We have partnerships to help us make that happen. At the same time, we have room to adapt and improvise. There would be no point in having a Feedback forum if our plans for the next decade were set in stone and locked down by contract. This #Feedback forum is such an important place because it enables you to play a role in our creative process - and we hope you see evidence of that in Update 2.0. It would be hard to make a ten year "plan" that anticipated everything you have collectively said to us as a community. The long-term commitment to the players of Destiny is there, it just isn't so defined that we can't pivot toward great ideas.

Well from this post and Deejs answer, why would anyone want to continue to pay every 4 months for"dlcs/access" when it could scrapped in a year leaving people with nothing to show. They allowed the ten year rumor to infest these boards and the media to show value, and growth. When in reality they are just winging it. With everything going on negatively right now good luck even lasting a year.

Yeah Ive been saying this for ages. Plus the agreement was signed in 2010.... Hahahahhaha. Desticles are going to be Salty.

Incoming Desticles attempting to justify the behavior.

Please stop researching ways to get back at bungie/activison...get a life

Get a real life man! There has to be something positive you could be doing! Let us play and you can hit the road!!!!

I think people need to take a step back and realize this is just a game, it's not like you're getting screwed out of your home that's been promised to you. If you don't like destiny or the way bungie does their work then you have thousands upon thousands of other games to choose from. Just sayin
-
Thank god. Putting a dead-set goal is too hard for any company to follow. I'd rather see little quality content than a quantity of poor content.
-
That's true, it won't be ten years. More like eight years based on the documents which were released. :)

Edited by OvergrownRoom: 9/23/2015 10:22:43 PMIts comical they don't have a ten year plan. I'm just messing around with a story and I already have a trilogy sketched out over at least 3 years. The way I see it they are all just lazy money hungry pos's. edit: not to mention the amount of resources you have, you should be at least halfway designed on the 10 years...oh if you had one lol. at least I know not to buy you half baked ideas (which you just confirmed they are, half baked)

After seeing lost sols "apology post" I'm starting to think bungie is hacking accounts.
I know there will be that one fanboy to comment on this

I'll be waiting
Urk has made a habbit of making accusations. I'm surprised he's still in a job! The rabbit hole goes deeper so it would seem. It makes me sad that video game developers now seem to be at the mercy of their publishers. I have not seen Activision once take any responsibility for Destinys failures. They haven't even admitted the mess up with the O'Donnell and Staten. The an inscrutable dick filled business. I'll eat my face if most of the top execs at Activision even own a games machine. Bungie should have gone independent or stuck with Microsoft (at the detriment to Sony).

Stop buying what they put out. I've took my time and read reviews and did a bit of my own research to see if it's worth it and I couldn't find one reason to buy it. I even watched the raid from start to finish and I still wasn't swayed. It's just more of same old same old imo carrying out all these new quests over the same areas. BORING.

Another point...I bet you anything Bioware had the entire Mass Effect trilogy mapped out. That was quite a few years in its own right.

Edited by Zeds Dead: 9/23/2015 1:36:02 AMIf I have learned anything from playing destiny the past year is that bungie vision is a bunch of greedy pos that will say whatever it takes to get your money. Buyer beware.
