So I was thinking about Ammo Synthesis, yes it's a great idea to have them in the game. And I would say that the way they are currently used is fine.... in other games.
However, in the fast-paced and sometimes (and often when you need them) incredibly intense game play of Destiny, I don't think the implementation is quite correct.
So just picture it, you're in a huge fight, you run out of ammo for your Heavy Weapon and you want to pop a synth but you've got a horde of enemies coming towards, you open your menu hoping to 'quickly' use one and take them out before they take you out. What happens? You're left standing there like a deaf and blind moose in open season while all the circles whirl away deciding what you actually have in your inventory, and this can sometimes take as long as up to 2 or 3 seconds (which as we all know is the difference between being fully shielded and dead in this game).
What do I propose? I agree that it shouldn't be a simple case of, oh I'm out of ammo then BAM instantly refilled ammo cause it takes away from the tension of running out of ammo. But relying on the inventory screen is just daft. So how about, if you run out of ammo completely then with that weapon equipped, you have to HOLD the reload button for 3 seconds and it'll USE an ammo synth from your inventory. It'll still take a couple of seconds which will hold the tension, but it doesn't leave you blinded and unable to react to situations.
Just food for thought.
