The problem is not if it's legal or not, the problem is they are treating customers like garbage. No one with half a brain is claiming bungie is doing something illegal but most will agree they are pulling a scumbag move. If you don't buy the new WoW expansion content isn't severally limited for you, if you don't buy the new borderlands dlc, loot suddenly becomes harder to get. Standards have been set by other company's on how this should be handled, and bungie and activision decided to try and squeeze more money out of people by employing cheap tactics to get more people I buy TTK.
Tl:DR It's a pathetic move to get more people to buy the dlc because apparently they had not confidence it would sell without resorting to shit business practices.

McCaffee, Norton, apparently ALL software companies treat users like shit, but somehow we keep buying their stuff every year?

Typically they won't limit the previous version so you will upgrade, they will make improvements to give you a reason to upgrade. Although I will plead ignorance on this because I'm not typically one to buy software regularly.

Yes, they do. Played WoW? Tried to do last year's raid? Probably not. Guess what? Nobody is doing that raid.
