All end game activities have progressed with each dlc. If you go into iron banner lower than the level cap, you've got no chance. If you go into trials lower than the level cap, you've got no chance. If you attempt to do a nightfall while being 6 levels behind then guess what, you've got no chance. Everything he has previously paid for he can still play.
