Never have I played a game that removed content and put it all behind a paywall. This is a new low in the video game industry, and Activision and Bungie should be ashamed of themselves. I can no longer play the only things I enjoyed in the game, as they were all taken away.
I was thinking about buying TTK, but couldn't afford it just yet. So, I figured I would just do weeklies, play control, do some higher level strike playlists, and maybe some Iron Banner when it drops. Well, can't do any of that now. As a result of this under-handed business tactic, I will not be purchasing TTK, as I cannot support developers who treat their customers this way.
Now, before your even mention the EULA, know that there are consumer protection laws for some people, that prevent anyone from agreeing to an unfair contract, even if they previously accepted this agreement. And, I believe they are in violation of these LAWS, which the EULA is not.
*EDIT: for those interested, I have filed formal complaints with the BBB, as well as the Washington State Attorney General's Office Consumer Protection Division. I guess we will see just how far Bungie is legally allowed to take things, and if they are legally in the wrong.
As consumers, it is our right to complain of injustices, regardless of EULA's. Anyone refuting this fact is nothing short of ignorant. Now we will see what the law has to say.
*Edit: it's amazing how toxic this community is. It seems there is no camaraderie in this community, and people just resort to personal attacks at the first sign of someone having a different opinion, or a genuine issue with the product. Bungie, in my opinion, made a shitty decision, and showed they don't care for anyone who does not purchase TTK, and all the fanboy's can't see past their blind love for the game.
So I pose a question to everyone. Ignoring the EULA, what do you think of the way Bungie has handled this expansion roll-out with regards to those that have not purchased it? Put yourselves in their shoes, and give an honest answer.
*Edit: For those that care, the BBB complaint has been processed, and Activision has until October 02, 2015 to respond. Apparently hundreds of people have filed complaints against Activision for various games, with amicable resolutions. There is hope.
*Edit: just to clear a misunderstanding. I own the game and the first 2 expansions. I paid over $100 for all that just like everyone else. I don't want anything for free. I just want what I have always had... What everyone always had.
*Edit: So, Activision responded to my complaint, and had the following to say:
I understand your frustrations, I have dealt with other cases similar to yours. Unfortunately we are not in a situation to provide refunds or compensation. Unfortunately the only thing I am capable of doing for you is to pass along any feedback you might have. I do not know if this policy will change in the future. If there was more I could do, I would do it with no questions asked. For now if you have any more feedback please feel free to update this case along with your Gamertag/PSN ID. Thank you for your time and have a good day.
They assume that all I want is money. I just want the features back. I already responded to them, and the BBB case. It seems Activision really doesn't care to solve the issue... big surprise there.
*Edit: For those that have not seen this. If Bungie is forced to do this, does that not mean their EULA was in violation of these customer's rights? They are forced to right a wrong, and have been given a reasonable window in which to address it. And yes, they are providing storage upgrades.

*Edit: To all those following this, I have just received a response back from the Attorney General's Office Consumer Protection Division of Washington State. They have reviewed my complaint, and deemed it appropriate to move forward. Note, this is a law office deeming this a valid complaint regarding the Consumer Protection Act. So, if they see this as a valid complaint, what right does anyone else have to label this otherwise? They know the law better than you.
*Edit: This may be my final edit. For those interested, it appears you can get a refund on your purchase by sending your disc into Activision, and requesting a refund. As per Bungie's EULA, if you do not agree with the terms therein, you are entitled to a refund. So, any guardians out there that don't agree with what happened, and would like a refund, just send your disc to Activision and request one. One final note, should you do this, Bungie will apparently delete your characters and Destiny account from their servers; you have been warned.

Tabula Rasa. It was a game very similar to Destiny. I loved that game. Got the collectors version when it launched. Then before it was even 1 year old NCsoft pulled the plug and shut the game off. No offline mode just like Destiny. The game was gone for ever. Or Hell Gate London. Launched around the same time as Tabula Rasa. Also shut down forever.

Anyone else read that title in the mortal kombat theme?

My friend, if this is serious then you are a prime example of what is wrong with the world today. Your priorities are screwed so much. This is a video game, not life itself. Entertainment that is a want, not a necessity. If the money spent here was that detrimental to you. Then why would you invest in a childish hobby? Is this a case if entitlement? That's self explanatory. But you have to wonder, how many other avenues you've also complained about and filed a report on. With your bright theory of taken content. What exactly is your plan for when the servers are shut down on this net base game approaching the dawn of destiny 2? Many of us will "lose" content. More will further invest both their time and money on the sequel. Those who don't will have to find other avenues. Are you doing to file a complaint that they have shut down the servers and you cannot access any of it again? Maturity and the value of life escapes you, or has yet to blossom.

Edited by Magebanker: 9/21/2015 1:26:23 PMThe bait is good. However let me clarify some things for you; The featured activities have always featured endgame activities, you know, the stuff that's current. If a daily mission or Nightfall was for The Dark Below, and someone didn't have that DLC, tough luck, no loot for them. In this case, tough luck for you. By the way you type it seems like you don't have a job. When you do, you'll be able to buy 2 or 3 TTKs in a day's work.

"Can't afford $40." Writes a long winded wah-wah complaint. Yup he's 15.....lol
-
First rule of destiny community don't go on the forums
-
Just another asshole who wants shit for free. If they left in all the original content, original vendors, etc, would you still have done this? I want to know. Because I'm sure you would have.
-
Have you read the terms of the game? You bought a licence to play specific things. You still have the same story you bought. The content you had access to was a licence and you clearly don't have that licence anymore. If we have more people complaining like you what will happen next? You won't have access to anything but the main game until you buy dlc. Is that what you want. So bungie give you access to a bunch of stuff you didn't pay for and then when they take it away you fee like you've been stolen from? Nah not the case. Good luck with your complaint but I don't think anything will happen.

Trials and iron banner are coming next week do those
-
Than leave. You people have been nothing about the same thing for months.

I agree with you dude... And it's actually really good to see someone doing something about it rather than the usual rage quit bollocks. Unfortunately, I don't think you are going to get much redemption from your course, but I'm 100% behind ya even if the government isn't. I bought the first dlc and quickly noticed how much bungie didn't give a shit about the player, but cared whole heartedly about the payer. This kind of capitalist abandonment is what, to me, personifies bungie and as far as I'm concerned they have taken microsofts mantle of the great evil... Bungie are as guilty if not more so than activision for so loosely giving their asses for open season. It's rare I wish negative of anyone but I would really love to watch Obama fist -blam!- bungie/activision all over your amazing States. I'd even buy the video Hope something happens dude Peace out
-
Me too, I've never in my life that I can remember, ever played a game, mmo or otherwise, that took content and features AWAY from the vanilla or previous dlc purchases of a game and lock them behind a paywall, or remove them entirely, when an expansion is released. Even the recent final fantasy 14 expansion removed no content from those that did not buy the expansion, aside from a few relatively minor things according to my roommates (again, according to my roommates, I have not looked into it myself) Hell the recently released dlc for elder scrolls online is the exact same story, those that did not buy it remain completely unaffected. They simply cannot access the new areas or use any dlc specific gear which doesn't matter because you can get gear outside of it that works just as well I am told.

Edited by Miro_1325: 9/21/2015 1:44:25 AMI'm guessing this is the new hip thing to complain about then. First it was people saying to not buy TTK cause it will kill destiny, now said people are complaining that they didn't by TTK and now are regretting their poor judgement. Meh this is why I stick to the reddit side of the forums. So much nicer people.
-
i guess if TTK players had actually played the game the way it is now for non TTK players, they would much more understand your points. without TTK there is no point in playing.
-
Apple does the same exact thing. Go back and try and use an iPhone 4 on the current OS...and then lol, lol so hard you serf. Plot twist, OP is an Apple fanboy/hypocrit lol talk about ironic.
-
No content was ever removed from this game. You people are -blam!-ing ignorant.
-
Guys this guy said he released FIFA lol

Edited by albinomachina: 9/21/2015 1:29:22 AMAfter I downloaded the update for TTK and realized how badly Bungie had shit on me, I left and haven't come back. I've been playing Halo again and honestly haven't missed Destiny since I quit. edit - fortunately for me, I got to see what TTK did to the game before I bought it so I didn't waste any money on it. I did buy ODST for $5 though, and am far happier with it than I would be with Destiny.

From a business perspective: Who would be complaining if they didnt upgrade the endgame nightfalls and weekies to the new levels? Bungie would have to deal with pissed off players who paid for an expansion had those activities not been updated. So it comes down to upgrading endgame stuff to please paying players, or leave it at low levels with year one exotics to please people who dont want to pay for an expansion and rather want free handouts. Bungivision knows not to bite the hand that feeds them. Have fun losing against Bungie.

This man has made very very valid points, how would you like every single game you play have very large amounts of cut content sold to you for a high price. Not only is he completely right but more than half of you show no support at all.
