I Stopped Paying for Netflix and Now I Can't Watch Movies, RIPOFF!

So I've paid for Netflix for an entire year! I've invested so much time into Orange is the New Black and House of Cards, I even grinded every episode of Friends last month! Now, I log in today and all of it is gone! I can't even watch movies that I have been able to watch for a full year! I don't get it. I've been a loyal customer for a year, and just because I stopped paying, I get locked out of content. Well I wont be giving them my business anymore, scammers.
Do you get it now?
EDIT 1: I seem to be getting a lot of similar replies, usually directed at claiming Destiny is not a "subscription" service and that we the players "own" the game. I'm sorry boys and girls, we do not own anything. We paid for a liscence to access Destiny's content; content which is subject to change or even be removed for those who don't update their liscence. This was all outlined in the EULA you blindly accepted a year ago. EDIT 2: "LIMITED USE LICENSE: Bungie grants you the non-exclusive, personal, non-transferable, limited right and license to install and use one copy of this Program solely for your non-commercial use. All rights not specifically granted are reserved by Bungie. The Program is licensed, not sold, for your use. Your license confers no title or ownership in this Program, and should not be construed as a sale of any rights in this Program." EDIT 3: Jesus this is still going, this is fantastic. It looks like the verdict is roughly about 50/50 on people agreeing with me, or calling me some derivative of the word retard. To each their own I guess. I'd hope you guys get this worked up when Norton Antivirus tries to charge you for updates, and then removes features when you don't pay. Because, you know, you bought a disk, so you're clearly entitled.

  • To everyone ripping OP, you know he has a point. At any moment Bungie/Activision could decide Destiny isn't worth it anymore and completely shut down the servers, effectively turning the game you "own" into a $60 ($100 for Year One's) coaster.

      • A better analogy would be if you bought an Iphone when it first came out. A year later they make a new Iphone, but you don't like the way the new one is set up, so you keep your old one. Problem is new apps that come out are only downloadable from the new system, you can't download any apps because your OS isn't the one the app was made for. The apps you like no longer get support so they are bugged out so bad that you can no longer run the apps at all. The Iphone itself let's you surf the web, make calls and texts, but that's it. You write a letter to Apple about how you used to be able to play games and do a lot of cool things on your Iphone, but now that you didn't upgrade, you can only do the bare minimum of what you used to be. Now I understand that Iphones are supported for longer than a year, but eventually the phone you have will no longer be able to run apps anymore because they do quit supporting them after a while. After one year, some apps, not all, are only usable on the newest one. So the people complaining it has only been a year, think about the price difference. I would rather pay $40 a year then $600 (or whatever an Iphone costs these days) every few years. I like your analogy because its satirical, but it doesn't do the point justice.

        • Nice try. But paying $100 for a game and being locked out of activities that you previously could do but now you can't is not the same. It is more like not being able to watch the season finale for season 1 of House of Cards until you purchase season 2.

          • Uses a service that requires a subscription then stops paying for subscription and start crying Q.Q Bungies ToS basically told us before the first Dlc release we may/would have to pay to play the services we already had once the Dlc was released. People mad they can't do nightfall? Too bad, keep up with the content or fall behind.

          • muted for 2 reasons 1)You mentioned watching Orange is the New Black.... 2)You had a very boring, copy and pasted paragraph for both of your "edits" going into technical yawn inducing descriptions, which you had prepared for the 1st reply that you felt corresponds to your pointless topic

            • Your barking at people that choose not to understand the end user agreement. You would have more luck wearing your ass as a hat than convincing them that they don't own the game. I've tried many times. In the end it doesn't matter. If they don't play anymore it's not going to affect me and if they do play great, let's get on with playing.

            • Well, to be honest the Destiny price tag is a subscription in essence at about $6 a month. So the Netflix analogy is a lot more accurate than what people think.

            • I have mentioned many times in the forums that destiny should have been subscription based. Bungie plans for all this content and charges a premium for it while making the vanilla game worse. I play the vanilla game. PvP is worse. I cannot join normal playlists. They have a "special" section for vanilla players. I cannot play normal control or normal clash. TTK is a scam.

            • This is basically it. The license (which is how we acquire most software) is clearly articulated but clearly not read. With Destiny, you have access to the base game even without buying the next round of DLC/subscription. But you aren't entitled to end game activities forever. But you do still get to play on the servers in the legacy activities. The real scam seems to be people who already enjoyed 100s of hours of entertainment and yet feel entitled to continued activities/upgrades that cost Bungie money to provide and/or people who demand refunds after already exhausting the content. That isn't cool. I took seriously the MMO aspects of this game and saw the DLC as a subscription you pay every 3-4 months. Maybe Bungie/Activision haven't been clear on this point. Perhaps instituting cosmetic micro transactions to subsidize the game will help. But I am sure another round of entitled kids will come out the woodwork screaming "content" and "paywall" and how they are entitled to the latest emotes and shaders....

Every software developer on the planet does the same thing when they sell you a box with a disk or an activation code inside. They're selling you a license to use their product/service. The only part about the game your actually own is whatever physical objects you received when you purchased your license. People can make all the analogies, good or bad, but it doesn't change the way software licensing works. Is it fair? Probably not. Unfortunately, your only recourse is to take your money elsewhere.
Note: I'm not an apologist for Bungievision, nor am I calling for their heads. Whatever business model they decide to use to use, playing $40 for a DLC module is pretty cheap entertainment, compared to going out to the movies/bar/club or paying for premium cable TV channels I'll never watch, so that's why I bought it.
• So just to help add to this whole concept of being locked out of something you "paid" for think about it what are you locked out of you are locked out of the nightfall the weekly heroic the new stuff and increasing the difficulty of the missions you are not locked out of what you paid for you are locked out of the bonus stuff for current players. pay to keep current or don't play the current stuff (a better analogy would be Hulu over Netflix they allow you to get stuff without having to pay but to get the bonus stuff like the newest episodes you have to pay or wait)

And all games now are like this (and pretty much every thing else digital) Nothing new here. You own the disc, not the software. But that still doesn't mean it's a subscription based game. Lmfao. You can still play Destiny without TTK. You stop paying on Netflix, you're not watching anything.

Even if it is not illegal, it is misleading. I didn't know I'd lose the ability to access year 1 activities, such as the PoE treasure chest.

              • That's not the same mate.... So from what I can tell people are complaining about not being able to play things they used to, like nightfall daily etc. And they have a point, the amount of things they can do in Destiny has decreased as a result of ttk. Sure they shouldn't get ttk but why should they have stuff taken away from them? I have ttk btw...
