[Rework] Improving the original story

[b][u]A smooth flowing story through the whole game to improve player experience/engagement[/u][/b] Let’s talk about the original Destiny content as well as that for TDB and HoW. With TTK we have seen a very significant change in how the story telling works but it’s no good if it’s only for one part of the story. TTK saw an improvement with the large number of cutscenes (that are actually good) as well as Noldan Bot actually being… enjoyable to listen to with his conversations dialogue. Undoubtedly it was the Cayde-6 x Eris combo that really brought out the best in it and really added some depth the characters. But like I said, it’s one thing to bring this great change to one portion of the game but this needs to happen to all content, new and old. It would take a lot of time but it would really bring out a new level of engagement for Destiny. Bungie has shown that they can make a compelling story line, now they just need to implement this into the rest of the game; Vanilla Destiny, TDB and HoW. With more cutscenes in the rest of the game we could really see a change in the right direction for Destiny. New interactions between your Ghost and the other NPCs during missions like in TTK would also lead to a more engaging experience as well as giving more insight to the characters and what we are defending. Something slightly off topic, but very much related to a smooth experience, would be removing the forced travel to orbit after a mission. Rather than being forced to orbit, allow the player to stay in the area. Upon completing a mission the next mission in that “chain” would automatically be initiated, you would have to travel over to the location to complete it. This just removes the broken experience of loading into orbit and loading into another mission. It’s all about making an engaging experience to better guide players through the story. Obviously there are some times where there are single missions in an area that you really can’t get out of and you need to be sent to orbit (revisting the raids in particular). On the other hand take Mars for example; you can basically complete all the missions and strikes (if you have TDB for The Undying Mind) without ever having to go to Orbit. [b][u]Gear and Player Levels: A rework to include old gear for the original content[/u][/b] Right, that’s the main subject done and out of the way, next up is the gear treadmill. This ties in directly to the next section. Bungie had originally set up a gear treadmill scenario to happen from Vanilla Destiny to The Dark Below, this means that old gear would not be upgraded and you would need to get new gear to be useful. This is a common thing for MMO games to do when they raise the level cap, unfortunately Bungie failed to communicate this well enough to the players and was met with severe backlash. So I’m going to propose a semi-gear treadmill. Basically only Raid and Exotic gear can be carried with you but you need to work to keep it. (I will supply a link to a more in-depth post about this as well as the levelling changes at the end of the next section). To bring back old gear into the game is simple; From level 1-30 the vendors would only sell Vanilla Destiny gear From level 31-40 the vendors would add gear from TDB to their stock From level 41-50 the vendors would add gear from HoW to their stock From level 51-60 the vendors would add gear from TTK to their stock This is how a gear treadmill works.You can't upgrade old gear, just move onto the next stage of gear. Now, to understand what you just read about original gear lets start with this: level 40 is not a high enough level. I will keep this short. Level 40 should be made for the end game TDB content, lvl 50 for end game HoW content and lvl 60 for end game TTK content. Level 34-40 was easier then level 19-20. There is also the issue of Light Level. This needs to be removed completely, your level should mediate the gear you can equip, the defence value of armour would dictate how much damage you take and the value of a weapon should dictate how much damage you deal. It’s a very basic system (in-depth: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/149476401/0/0 ) [b][u]Opening End Game content to non-DLC owners[/u][/b] This is not a recent issue but it is worse then ever, and that's that non-DLC owners are being locked out of the game which is just downright unacceptable. All end game content should be available to them, but it would be tiered; if you only have Vanilla Destiny you would be able to play all the Weeklies with others that only have Vanilla Destiny. Same situation if you own TDB, you will have access to endgame content but will only ever be given a series of strikes/missions that can only be seen by players that only have TDB. PvP is simple, you either have TTK or you don't. You get the same game types but non-TTK owners won't see the TTK game types and vise versa [b][u]The good will suggestion for Bungie to Year One players whose wallets are feeling light[/b][/u] Finally, I believe Bungie, out of goodwill to those that had to pay more than others because they bought the game on day one as well as TDB and HoW, Bungie could gift the next two minor DLC coming this year to those players for free. I’m not saying that they (me included) are entitled to free DLC, more of a suggestion to Bungie to right wrongs and get back in touch with their community. Like I said, just a suggestion.
