I agree with the greed bit for sure. For starters, nothing shouts greed like the limited time exclusives, let's just get that out the way. Additionally, if you do not buy the Taken King you can play about 20% of anything multiplayer, literally. In the crucible, there are 3 legacy game modes which are all regular point based kill types. All the other game types, control (available before TTK), and anything outside of rift and Mayhem are now locked to TTK exclusively. You can't play weekly heroics unless you have ttk which were available in year 1, no nightfall, no, 1 legacy vanguard level 20 or something raid that you can't even change the difficulty on. Yes it's a good game, doens't mean money isn't the biggest priority.

In addition to this, on release day, release day, it doens't work for most people on a major console. Call people impatient, but it's a release date, there are no excuses for the game not working AT ALL! We're not talking about small bugs here and there on 360. It just doesn't work, so yes they're getting hammered and rightfully so. I got charged twice for this game after finally getting my Legendary dl to work.
