So I've been slowly making my way through what Grimoire (3290) cards I have and I just clicked on section for the Traveler. The three additional cards in titled "Dreams of Alpha Lupi".
From what I've read the cards themselves are more or less the Traveler's thoughts during its journey to our solar system, its thoughts upon arriving, and then its thought's when it was damaged. The first card ends with "And it is your children you must turn to now, in time of need. " leading me to believe that these are clearly the memories of the Traveler. The second card reads "This has been such a long chase. This will be the place you will fight. Fight and win. But do you really know why you go where you go, and where this journey is taking you? The chase leads you where you need to be, you believe. Unless...you are being pushed. "
Finally, the last card reads of the Traveler after it's been wounded. It says "The knife had a million blades. And you were giant, powerful and swift. But the knife pinned you. Cut your godly flesh away.Very little was left, you are sure, because you feel insignificant now. The hard slick heart of your soul: That is what remains. A body small as a river stone, and just as simple. You picture yourself as a piece of indigestible grit, a nameless nothing hiding among other nameless stones. Perhaps you glitter like a gem, yes. Pride makes you hope so. If only you could see yourself. But you have no eyes. Not the dimmest sense survives. What lives is memory, and what slim portion of these thoughts can you trust? The knife stole much more than your body."
If these are really the Traveler's thoughts and memories then clearly the Traveler is a sentient being. I'm not sure if that was covered in the story or any other grimoire cards. It has conscience thoughts and sorry to say, Guardians, but it seems even the Light we were born from isn't as bright as we'd hope it to be and it seems to be doubting its own Light. It was attacked by something which is why I think it's all broken up when you look at it from the Tower. And the whole "The knife stole much more than your body" part has got me wondering what the Traveler was beforehand.
Why are they titled "Dreams of Alpha Lupi" then? 2 theories on that.
1) The Alpha Lupi were the first Guardians to be born of the traveler and are blessed/cursed with witnessing the Traveler's journey while they dream. I also think that The Alpha Lupi may have been the original Iron Banner members seeing as how Iron Banner's emblem is a tree and a wolf. The wolf being the "Lupi" which I'm pretty sure is the singular latin for Lupus or whatever which is wolf. And if the Alpha Lupi were the originals, then the Alpha would be like the seed of the organization and now however many years later when the Iron Banner is established the seed has grown into a tree.
2) Alpha Lupi is the Traveler's name. The only reason I think this is because when I googled Alpha Lupi a wikipedia page came up talking about how its the name of a star.
But then in the Etymology section it says "In Chinese, Kekouan 騎官 (Qí Guān), meaning Imperial Guards, refers to an asterism consisting of α Lupi, γ Lupi, δ Lupi, κ Centauri, β Lupi, λ Lupi, ε Lupi, μ Lup, π Lupi, and ο Lupi .[12] Consequently, α Lupi itself is known as 騎官十 (Qí Guān shí, English: the Tenth Star of Imperial Guards.)"
Which i feel like is something someone at Bungie would have stumbled across when naming something "Alpha Lupi". From that I saw Qi Guan which reminded me of Qui Gon Jin of Star Wars. Just like how Qui Gon was a jedi and trained Obi Wan, I think the Traveler was a part of a more powerful body like the Jedi Order, and its now it's training us in the way of the Jedi. Except, its an Imperial Guardian and it's training us in the way of the Guardians.
So there is my whole Fhaxxing conspiracy theory from reading 3 grimoire cards. Anyone else want to tell me I'm crazy?
