I killed a 10 point buck last night. Shot him 30 minutes before dark and had to track him down into a thick swamp. Took about 4 hours to get him out. REAL hunter

  • So yea I hunt with a bow, I track my animals set up where I think would suit best, NEVER hunt over bait piles and always follow rules/regs. And literally load my freezer for the winter with meat. So YES, that's as REAL hunter as there is in today's world and for that matter I have no idea how anybody would have done it differently in the past. Dig a hole and wait on something to fall in?

  • Also just because I hunt doesn't mean any of you have any idea how I do it so assuming that I go out there with a machine gun spraying the woods down clearly watch too many movies. It doesn't work like that. I track, I follow laws rules regulations, I don't take over my limit and I don't even hunt over bait piles which is more than most hunters can say.

  • I'm no expert but wouldn't a good Hunter kill his target with a clean shot, not let the animal suffer for that long?

  • Well I do hunt with a bow. Also most hunters would prefer to drop an animal on sight but it doesn't always happen that way, especially with a bow. Also most hunters hunt with overkill weapons because they can't shoot well enough to rely on a clean heart/lung shot

  • Also overkill weapons may drop animal where you shoot it however it can cause so much internal impact it can destroy other parts of the deer and spoil the meat rendering the deer useless. Hunting with a bow is the cleanest way to preserve the most of the deer no matter how long it takes him to go out. Also have seen countless perfect lung shots in my day where the deer ran more than a mile away.

Typically you go for lung shots because it has the largest hit zone, it's not common to attempt a heart or headshot. You then track your target's blood trail. EDIT: But there are still ethics involve and common laws among hunters. I have enormous respect for the animals I hunt, and always try to use every part of the animal to its fullest. People who kill without respect or conscience are no hunter.

  • I have no issues with hunting, but how does one show respect for the animals one hunts?

  • By respecting the laws surround by the animals season and taking it humanely as possible.

  • Wait, the season hasn't even started yet, and 4 hours in a swamp would RUIN that animal... Amateur.

  • Say what you want and I'm hardly an amature. Ask anybody that's taken a deer with a bow and they will vouch for that. Anybody that isn't an amateur would know that every state has diff laws and diff opening days. Mine started sept 1st thank you. And yes I wasn't happy it took that long to get the deer but it's hardly ruined

  • Those comments are completely meaningless unless you happen to be vegetarian. If you eat meat and can say those things then you need to go to these slaughter houses and see what happens to animals in cages that you eat. You'll either become vegetarian or you'll start hunting

  • Are you a vegetarian? Wouldn't you say eating an animal that's been bred and raised in captivity to be slaughtered to put on your plate slightly more unethical than the way I do it.

  • ...yeah, that's what a REAL hunter does. They hunt. The implication being that he has the advantages. Hence why in all the action films around this theme they tend to have a line 'I'm not going to be hunted any more' or some shit. If the animals weren't defenceless he'd be a fighter. Would make lion hunting far more interesting to watch though, giraffes 360 no scoping mother -blam!-ers from across the map, nerf elephants' defence it's op, Lion's melee is ridiculous, etc etc.

  • I see no reason why we can't load wild animals up with automatic weapons and have some kind of farm yard Battle Royale to establish speciesal dominance.
