I've noticed crucible is "no place for mercy" when it comes to supers anymore. You lose your super immediately when killed in any part of the animation. There's no chance of still having it when you respawn now.

Wrong , I get killed in the middle of my nova bomb animation but still have it

That's because you never threw the nova. Radiance, arc blade, golden gun, shadowshot(?), stormtrance and hammer of sol all lose their super when activated, even if you die during animation you lose it.

That's how it's been for me as a gunslinger it seems forever

Yep. If you get hit the instant you activate, you're dead and respawn without a super, whereas before you could be half way through the animation, get killed and still have your super on respawn.
