They didn't have online only games when I was young. Closest thing was some BBS MUDs that a couple folks ran. The first online-only game I played was Everquest. But I was in college by then, and about to graduate at that. So I put down World of Warcraft, but then I still play that even 11 years later (I was a day one player of it back in 2004, still have my original character).

2 RepliesMaybe this isn't considered 'online', but I used to play Warcraft (the original) with my brothers and friends split up in teams. Back then we had to do it using dial up through the phone, so we would dial each other and play. We would run back and forth to each other's house and talk smack in between games, good times ='). Phone calls used to interrupt our games and break the connection before we found out you could put a * or something before the phone number that would block any incoming calls.

Internet wasnt a thing when I was young. Pac man got a thrashing on the old black and green screen mac. Otherwise street fighter II down at the arcade was the best multiplayer.
