In the preparation for TTK, Bungie partially resolved the crucible meta problem by nerfing thorn and last word. Good changes, indeed.
Yet, the meta still exists in an even worse form: shotguns. No, they shouldn't be removed or banned from any game modes. Instead, place simple restrictions such as no sliding and reduced/ no sprinting while a shotgun is held. Alternatively, these changes could only be applied to high-impact shotguns.
Well then, what would be the effects of these changes?
Pros: No more slide shotgunning in crucible and shotgunning is now completely reliant on timing. Now that shotguns can no longer be abused, more secondaries become relevant and weapon loadout diversity ensues. Sliding is not a major part of PvE activities, so this change would go mostly unnoticed there.
Cons: Shotgun spammers would have a harder time in crucible. May impact some negatively in faster paced end-game PvE activities.
Please leave feedback in comments. Maybe this'll become a thing.

Honestly it's just that Rangefinder and Shot Package need to be removed completely.

Seriously people are still salty about shotguns? XD they are a cqc weapon... If you get caught up close by a shotty then that's your fault for letting someone close enough.... I run shotguns myself because I like to be sorted at medium/long and short range for crucible.... I like to run around and use shotguns as they reward tactics... Sticking to close quarters of the map, patrolling areas... Using your radar etc.... Fusion rifles aren't bad either now... I await people bitching about them again soon.... Destiny's community and cods community both bitch about shotguns... I don't see why! End of the day it's a game!!! Have fun using your weapons that you choose to use!

The Last word and Thorn(to a lesser extent) as annoying as they could be held the rampant shot gun scrubs at bay. Now specifically with the last word being far less viable for the average player shot guns are free to run around. There really aren't many other weapons that will melt a rushing shot gun before they get into the OHKO range right now. I think taking away sprint and or sliding while shot guns equipped would be very extreme. There should be ways for them to evade damage while they attempt to get close. Shot guns just need a significant reduction to the OHKO range, they need to bring the range down across the board to more like they were before the Felwinters Lie type was introduced.

Im not sure if you can see but that Update on shotguns has no effect. In pve i use shotguns and the enemies i go near usually get KO'd. From low to High. In pvp ive seen ppl still use Shotguns ignoring the update and still win. I dont see the difference much. I know AR got a huge buff ( feels like b4 ) Pulse ( meh ) snipers feel the same. Heavy received a huge buff and negativity. Reasons: Rockets feel diffent ( jelly is still there but feels like crap / instinct ) Machine guns - i love ( thunderlord is just awesome feels like the new jelly ) packs a punch on bosses and as you shoot enemies explode ( no abilty on that odd ).

Edited by Moot: 9/12/2015 8:49:29 AMNo running/sliding while using a shotgun? Are you mad? Putting a restriction like that on any weapon class would completely bury it. And shotguns aren't even that bad. They're reliable, but with a high risk high reward playstile.

Edited by TechnoKat: 9/12/2015 8:44:01 AMOr you know, design maps that aren't cramped and don't direct combat into the buildings. Do you see shotguns being used like this in a Halo game? No. Because between each building is a large, open area you have to cross and running out in the open with a shotgun out is asking for death. How about Battlefield? Do people just charge at you with a shotgun because it works 99% of the time? Not in my experience, thanks to the fact that they'd have to charge across open terrain to get at you, even if the kill range is several times that of Bungie's Shotgun. Titanfall? Don't think so. CoD? Well, hell. I don't even think I need to go any further.

Shotguns wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't for blink.
-
Problem is the maps.

Edited by Sas: 9/12/2015 8:33:33 AMWe have to wait for TK gear and subclasses as well as for the Meta to settle. It's too soon to speak of changes. But if a chance to shotguns is due, I'd say take down the impact on the offenders; felwinters, party crasher, matador archetype. The range stat is fine, it's the ohk potential of that archetype that's a potential issue.
-
Edited by FrozenBre4k: 9/12/2015 8:21:35 AMShotguns need their Base range stat reduced, then they will be fine. They are supposed to be a close range weapon not a sniper rifle.
-
They changed stats on other weapons. So the best fix is to take these shotguns stats and put them where they belong. It's only these same ones. Much like how the exotic hand cannons were a problem. Take them down a peg. Is it so hard. Other shotguns can get the same perks and aren't as powerful. We've lived long enough with these stupid shotguns.
-
Dude stop standing still when you see a shot gunner running/sliding towards you
-
My only problem is that I don't really play pvp (don't give a shît about my kd) and even I do play it, and run in to those players that run around with a shotgun all day I can't anticipate the range so it fûcks me over all the time. I literally chased this person the whole match and all he was using was a shotgun. Fun huh?
-
Shotguns are not as good as they were , by a long shot . Side arms will be the new go to secondary IMO
-
The only shotguns that are a pain are the ones we've been seeing.... felwinters, party crasher, and matador.... all others shotguns are somewhat right but not those.... I mean they didn't even think about nerfing specifically felwinters knowing it's ridiculous range compared to other shotguns

Edited by PopNSmoke87: 9/12/2015 7:40:11 AMHaha. All aspects of this pvp suck now. If they wanted to fix something fix the lag. There was nothing wrong with anything else. I'm downloading COD. Mayhem and rift are something COD would do anyway on a newbie playlist to attract ding dongs.

More bitching

Edited by Spronic-: 9/12/2015 7:37:09 AMI think there should be a separation in stats/meta between pvp and pve. Like, for example the hand cannon nerf, in pvp it makes sense to lower the range so that people aren't "sniping" with a handgun across the map. But in pve? No ones complaining. It's effective and requires skill or preference. I think it's a bold move for Bungie to try and balance weapons across two, very different playing mechanics. I don't think the community/fans every really expected or clamored for that.
-
Edited by Hiddenmonkey10: 9/12/2015 7:35:05 AMShotguns are actually not the end all say all anymore. They're still good, yes, but far from sniping from halfway across the map like they were. I've found myself doing better with fusion rifles and snipers now. Heck, I've even seen people running around with the sidearm instead of a shotgun. The nerf was enough to inspire change, no further action is necessary.
-
If you think that shotguns need to be changed in that sense then snipers should have no aim assist and give it a realistic sway so that people dont hard scope corners
-
"Spammers" "Abusers" You can't use words like those. They are opinions. You don't like shotguns. We get it. Why make a huge post? You could have just said "I hate shotguns" and been done.
-
Meta is the new multiplayer fetish word it would seem.
-
They have already showed they don't care about messing with perks example is field scout
-
Reduce range and shotguns would be fine or make sidearms have more range and fusion rifles you can leave alone.
-
Shotguns are in a good place. If you let someone with a shotgun get in your face, sorry, you're going to die. That is the point of a shotgun. You may as well say cut the effective sniper range in half and leave some health on the board when you headshot. Shotgun = shotgun.
-
There's just so much of this a person can handle, especially when it's one of the most basic things ever. Spend less time complaining and more time developing a counter strategy. I'll give you a hint: shotgunners will want to get close, you should try to not allow that to happen. Seriously dude. You don't need to be babied by Bungie to succeed. Just put the work in.
