It's pretty easy to do. You can see how big it is in relation to Saturn's rings during the arrival cinematic for the new Crucible map, The Dungeons.
Saturn's rings are 73,000 km wide. From the cinematic, the Dreadnaught is about 0.07 times as long, and in the same plane as the rings. That makes the Dreadnaught...
5110km long!
That's over 5 million metres.
From other, better quality images of the Dreadnaught, I've calculated that one side of one of its square ends is about 0.3 times as long as it's length. Therefore, that gives a total volume of...
1.2 x 10^10 (12000000000) cubic kilometres!
So, yeah. It's pretty damn big.
Edit:
Obviously, I am not expecting that we will be able to visit even a tiny fraction of this. Just like how we cannot visit all of the Earth, Venus, etc.
Also, I find it likely that Bungie does not actually intend for it to be this big, and instead either didn't realise (or expected other people not to realise) just how big Saturn's rings are. That, or it's just to make it look more badass.

Oh, man. So we're going to be exploring 0.01% of it, haha.

Science!
-
Got to be honest... I was with you until you said "about". There is no about in science.
-
Um miles plz

Edited by SnowCrashYOLO: 9/11/2015 6:02:41 PMFrom where did u pull that 0.07 number?
-
Not possible. Other cinematics show hive dropships--The ones from in game--flying next to the dreadnought, and while they are definitely small in comparison, the fact that we can still see them and make out details relative to the dreadnought tells us the dreadnought can't be that large.

How exactly do the cabal plan on blowing that up?
-
I know you cant do much but I have 7 public events left in my moments of triumph , and my internet I cut off . im not a full time player ( played most of the summer just to get to this point)as a matter of fact since schools back in session ive barely touched my xbox. . my internet , as funny as this sounds wont be turned on till Tuesday when my check hits . I don't want to lose a chance at an emblem over seven events , unlike how ive done everything else in the game . pls if you could contact bungie about this I would be so appreciative . im just so sad that ive done all this , and because I haven't done that im not going to get an emblem I played and had fun trying to get .( ps im using my phones internet to send this

It's more likely bungied -blam!-ed up the scale of the Rings

Nerd lol

Well presented.

And then add all of that dirt in the hallways drifting into corners on the strike reveal ....reaction mass?
-
That topic title gave me a pause worthy chuckle.
-
Yea, bungie isn't actually going to make more than 2% of that playable
-
Do you think he might be compensating for something?.....
-
You really got my hopes up there. I thought this was about the patrol itself.
-
Did you account for 3 point perspective? You need a third fixed point of reference to gauge distance between the dreadnought and the rings. I can pretty much guarantee that it is not 5 million meters if not for the sole fact that you can't use a sparrow inside.
-
Edited by DSharp018: 9/11/2015 4:50:28 PMI don't think it's quite that big. In one of the trailers it shows the circle that the dreadnought made in the rings, this circle is something that can't be more than 1/15 of the diameter of the current rings diameter just bassed on eyeball observations, and the dreadnought itself is at most 1/3 of that 1/15 in its length, so I'm thinking something closer to 1622 kilometers. Edited because I forgot it was in KILOmeters.

Edited by Clickmonster: 9/11/2015 4:31:29 PMTo put this in perspective, this makes the dreadnought a little bit bigger than the distance from the east coast of the U.S. To the west coast.
That's pretty big
I think Oryx is compensating for something.

It's a game....

Could someone convert this to feet please?

That feeling when someone talks metric instead of the retarted.. sorry I will stop now.
