I've already read enough posts from other Guardians to know that I'm not the only one who feels this way.
I'm really irritated with the fact that all my armor and weapons that I've been grinding away for are about to become completely useless on the 15th. Bungie is forcing me to use completely new gear and I dont like it. While I understand that this can be exciting for some because they get to hunt for all new gear, but I REALLY like some of my guns and I would like to continue to be able to use them in any situation it calls for. For example, I have a FWC Scout Rifle, ("The Calling", i think is what its called) that I got as a drop from before ANY of the DLC, before rerolling regular Legendaries was a thing, and it has explosive rounds, firefly and outlaw on it. It's essentially a Fatebringer in scout rifle form. I'm really mad that I won't be able to enjoy this gun any more without taking a serious hit to my light score/attack damage.
A lot of people are comparing this to other MMOs, such as when World of Warcraft drops new content it makes all the old gear irrelevant. I honestly think that comparison is bullshit. First of all, if you consider Destiny and "MMO" you're smoking glass. Bungie has already denied labeling Destiny as an MMO, if you dont believe me go google "Is Destiny an MMO" and tell me what the top box says.
In MMO's you're supposed to be able to interact with a massive amount of players at any given time; In Destiny the most people you can see at one time is 16, and that's in the tower. Not very "massively multiplayer". So people who are using the "well, all other MMOs do this all the time, I don't see why you're complaining" just STFU now because Destiny isn't an MMO lol. And besides, the "Well everyone else is doing it" argument has never been a good line of reasoning.
Also, I see the weapons/armor in Destiny to be more like that of Borderlands than that of World of Warcraft. Why? Because each gun and the perks that come along with it are completely randomized, therefore making them that much more meaningful of a weapon when you actually get the roll you want.
Whereas in WoW and other MMOs / ARPGS you are basically just grinding for a DPS number, making the actual weapon less meaningful to the owner. Because the skills your character is capable of is determined by their class/talent tree. The class/talent tree for a Guardian is really only a determining factor of what your grenade and melee's are capable of.
It'd be like if, instead of leveling up to unlock all your moves in WoW, your character only really knew 3 core moves and every other skill you'd use (i.e. pressing 1, 2, 3, etc) would be determined by what weapon you were using/what piece of armor you had on.
Now I guarantee that if in WoW, "AoeMove1" was only usable if you had gloves equipped that specifically granted you said AoeMove1, people on WoW would lose their -blam!-ing shit if all the gear they worked towards that had gear-specific skills were all of a sudden obsolete and you had to grind away at all new gear with all new moves. Effectively cause them to re-build their character instead of adding into what it currently is & providing a synergy between old and new content.
Then people talk about well what if they added transmog to Destiny, but honestly I feel like that would be super disrespectful to the people who played faithfully throughout Year One. Like if someone transmogged their shitty Spare.Change25 to look like The Messenger? Even though The Messenger would still be a better gun because of the impact and yadayada, I'd be mad and im sure others would be too because its like someone out there has some cheap bootlegged version of my gun. I actually went flawless but then this asshole just got a lucky transmog and can't hold a positive K/D in crucible.
I dunno, I honestly feel like If I want to keep using the guns that I like I should be able to do that. Tons of people argue that "well if that was the case you'd be fully geared out in one day". Yes and No. They've already explained that you're going to have to infuse TTK weapons in order to raise their ATK/DEF stats so why not just add capability to all the year one gear? It starts at a lower attack level than the new gear, so technically the grind to raise the ATK/DEF stats to the new max would esentially be the same.
For example, Year 1 guns are currently at 170. and I believe the new max is 400? So if the new TTK legendaries get dropped at any ATK higher than 170, then the grind to get year one gear to the new end-game standard is the same as leveling a TTK weapon from, lets say 220, to 400.

Just really feel like i'm being Fisted by Bungie on this one. All shit I did in year one feels irrelevant. What do i get to show my year one-ness? an emblem? Because I'm not going to change that at all ever....

Honestly, I don't see where they are getting the "every MMO is this way" line, there were weapons and armor in WoW that didn't become obsolete until [b]three[/b] DLC's past just because it was so effective. No nerfing, no changes to it's mechanics, it just flat became too low DPS to use/too low defense to use any more. The other weapons and armor just eventually outclassed it to the point that it fell out of use. [b]That[/b] kind of obsolescence is what I'd like to see in Destiny, not this forced junking of the weapons and armor we have ground out of the current content.
