Petition to Never Use Classic Rock in a Destiny Advert Again

After seeing the Japanese add, I cant even laugh at how shitty the American one is.
Who do these adds even appeal to?
EDIT: Lets not make assumptions about musical taste. Any form of popular music would have been inappropriate. Pop, rap, rock... most popular songs.
EDIT 2: Once again, this is not an attack on classic rock or any particular genre. This is about misleading advertising and out of place music in shitty commercials. All the money they spent on it... its trash.

EDIT: I gotta say, I am amazed how few people get the thread.
The vast majority of the posts on this thread essentially boil down to thinking I am insulting a 70s Rock Band and like Dubstep. As though the entire point of the thread flew over their heads and was completely lost on them. I guess I cant expect less from children.
But I will say this: I was wrong about the advert.
The advert is still an embarassing and misleading schlock epic: money burning on the screen, portraying Destiny as a game of one liners and awesome fist pumping ACTION when in reality, its a very slow moving old school sci fi universe that is highly confusing and has no one liners or bro action AT ALL.
But I thought an advert like this would be completely ineffective. I thought it would be a massive failure around here. But I was wrong, since apparently all it takes is a popular song and some schlock get people excited.
Damn shame that.

4 RepliesThe original live action commercial is what sold me on the game. The music was a big part of that, even though I understood that the music wasn't part of the game itself. Same with this new commercial. I like these a lot. I think the problem here is that you don't understand that you're not the target audience for these ads. There are other people in the world besides you, with other opinions and other tastes. Not every ad has to be for you. The awful, cringe worthy Dark Below ad was not for me. Watching it made me feel embarrassed to be a Destiny player. It seemed designed to attract the exact kind of player I dislike. But whatever. Different ads are for different people.

8 RepliesHey bro, as a musician personally... I agree with you, it makes me sick how many times games or movies will use THE SAME OLD classic songs... not that classics are bad... But because it makes the music industry one sided. Its why my personal feelings are that IN AMERICA music is dead, its everywhere now, but its overproduced sold out trash to the same time signature, and a whopping 3 chords. Chances are the people making the commercial have no idea about "modern music" plus they likely have incentives for using Sony brand music. The worst part being a musician is you live long enough to see a change, but realize its left up to the no experience joe, or the mind altering media to tell us "what good music is" Cobain died to avoid becoming the same fascists corporate dogs, that any band today strives for. Classical rock (jazz etc) is great but most of it is owned by the same 3 corporations that will keep shoving it down the medias throat as long as there is still a teenager, buying another beatles t shirt. No point for you to waste time with the forum trolls on this one, just know that I think your right, but we are outnumbered by the average joe. A joe who inherits the music they listen to.

The live action trailer they did last year with the dude shooting a gally at a hive door (that would have been cool) was ok. But the latest one didn't fit the trailer. It was completely out of place.

2 RepliesAfter viewing all these comments I could actually come to a conclusion that people really hold classic rock to a extremely high regard... Now instead of just trying to shove your taste of music down someone's throat, you could perhaps understand that there are people who just don't like your style of music? Also, the majority of people are right. this song really didn't fit with the ad's theme. When watching the video, I really was expecting some more grand music of what the taken king has to offer... Not a classical rock song. (no disrespect) Yes, I understand that the music of today is not what you want but, you must see that something other than your favorite would actually benefit the video... If Bungie put a Turmion katiliot for the release of a raid? Do you believe I would be happy? Sure, but I still would question why it was played for Destiny.

Someone here had said Led Zeppelin's "no quarter" would have been more suitable. I couldn't agree more. Music transcends the rigid classifications and genres we apply it to. The trailer they released depicted a sense of urgency and impending doom, something "black dog" failed to imply.

The catchphrase if you will for destiny is. "Become legend" is it not? If not than something very close. In saying that led Zeppelin are considered a legendary band, I understand the idea behind putting this song in the trailer, but yes you're correct in saying the music doesn't fit well with the trailer. I personally think the composers in the bungie team make excellent music which it shown in Destiny and Halo, surely they could just make a piece of music that fits the trailer more appropriately.
