After seeing the Japanese add, I cant even laugh at how shitty the American one is.
Who do these adds even appeal to?
EDIT: Lets not make assumptions about musical taste. Any form of popular music would have been inappropriate. Pop, rap, rock... most popular songs.
EDIT 2: Once again, this is not an attack on classic rock or any particular genre. This is about misleading advertising and out of place music in shitty commercials. All the money they spent on it... its trash.
EDIT 3: And actual quality Destiny advert: https://youtu.be/jS1BM9XRgvw
And another decent one: https://youtu.be/clRpcIHpmoY
EDIT: I gotta say, I am amazed how few people get the thread.
The vast majority of the posts on this thread essentially boil down to thinking I am insulting a 70s Rock Band and like Dubstep. As though the entire point of the thread flew over their heads and was completely lost on them. I guess I cant expect less from children.
But I will say this: I was wrong about the advert.
The advert is still an embarassing and misleading schlock epic: money burning on the screen, portraying Destiny as a game of one liners and awesome fist pumping ACTION when in reality, its a very slow moving old school sci fi universe that is highly confusing and has no one liners or bro action AT ALL.
But I thought an advert like this would be completely ineffective. I thought it would be a massive failure around here. But I was wrong, since apparently all it takes is a popular song and some schlock get people excited.
Damn shame that.

Led Zepplin is amazing

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I personally like all the ads I've seen for Destiny.
-
They need to make up their minds on if they want the game to be serious or not, honestly. They have one trailer where ominous music is playing and you see the sheer size of the Dreadnaught coming and in another trailer, the Titan literally pulls the whole "he's behind me isn't he" gag. Yeah, Black Dog is a good song. Yeah, Led Zeppelin was a pretty good band. But their music doesn't fit with a space war against a winged demon that wants to blot out every remaining light on earth.
-
you do know more money is spent on advertising then damn near anything else in the world. billions homie billions a year.
-
F- the ads, bring the classics in-game! I'd die of happiness if Led Zep came on during a patrol.. (It's not gonna happen, yeah I know, but shiet it would be cool.)

It might have been the wrong Led Zeppelin song. They probably should have used Kashmir.

Petition to use MORE Classic Rock in Destiny!

I'm sorry, what is the most LEGENDARY rock back to ever exist? Led Zeppelin. Hands down. Doesn't matter who you compare to, Zeppelin innovated music. Period. They changed the game. Let's see, Led Zeppelin I turns 50 in three years. How many dubstep songs that are from today will be relevant in 50, or even 3 years. I'll give you a hint, its 0.

I thought it was good, it was representative of a mood while playing , more so a scene inside a movie. It was well done in a cinematic point of view. The quality alone would put it above trash. I think moreover saying the concept was not to your liking would be more adequate than the commercial itself. It's like putting Jimi Hendrix as opposed to Beyoncé. Led Zep isn't a bad choice, Black Dog is ok for the new one but Immigrant Song was awesome and Epic for the first one. A great choice.
-
i thought black dog sounded pretty bad ass with it
-
Omfg. This post... I've had this idea ever since the beginning of time. I'm so tired of them using real music in general. It doesn't fit well, let alone classic rock. They need to use their own music. Everyone loves the Destiny soundtrack. I hate the commercials/ads they make. All of the live action ones. They suck.
-
Jesus chimney signed.. They have so much great in game music my God why??
-
At least they didn't use rap or any modern pop song.
-
First of all, it's not "some 70's classic rock band"...it's Led -blam!-ing Zeppelin. Secondly I would agree that Black Dog didn't mesh with add, even if it was mildly entertaining. First add with Immigrant was muuuuuuuch better
-
i liked the japanese ad i think the music was trying to be continuous with the first trailer, but even there it was out of place
-
I just watched a Japanese ttk ad, and it was dumb as phuck. Not sure what you are going on about...
-
Personally, I loved the Led Zeppelin "Immigrant Song" on the trailer. It was awesome. I had no thoughts that the game would have quippy one liners, et. al.
-
Fact is man that opinions are opinions. This new live action has classic rock because classic rock sets the tone. You don't understand advertising if you're mad the commercial is broadcasted a certain way if the game is nothing like it. For me. Destiny is just about exactly like the live actions. It's fun, adventurous and classic rock has a great feel for the game. I listen to some Inspiring hip hop and some screamo ere and there when I take off the mic and play a strike playlist
-
Yeah the music was shitty, but it was appropriate because many Destiny players seem to have shitty taste in music? Is what it is. At least the in-game music doesn't sound like that. All that matters.
-
Considering Zeppelin rarely lets their music be used for anything I would say it was pretty damn amazing.
-
If the destiny was set in that world there would be used panty dispencing machines in the tower. And alot more tentacle demon porn
