Separation of church and state. We are a nation of civil laws and under such, gay marriage is legal. As a civil servant she is obligated to uphold the law. Her religion is secondary to this.
Her denying marriage licenses isn't infringing on her right to practice her religion, it is however her forcing her religion on to others which is not allowed. As a government employee she cannot promote her religion above the law.
That's why there is a separation of church and state.
Would it be acceptable for a Muslim woman to deny marriage licenses to any women not wearing a hijab?
She is using her religion to justify her bigotry. She's actually quite hypocritical. If she was that religious she wouldn't have gotten divorced, twice.
She was thrown in jail for being in contempt of court for not following the judges orders. And she can't be fired, she's an elected official. She has to be impeached.
