Unsportsmanlike Behavior in PVP

Hello Guardians, (Make sure to read the edits at the bottom of this post) I am proud to say that I am an avid supporter of the Destiny community. However, there is a line that is crossed CONSTANTLY while playing Trials of Osiris, and any other form of PVP. Every week, I hop onto Destiny with friends and clan mates in order to dominate the playing field in order to gain the Trials gear. With that said, there are many groups of people that can best us, whether our game is off, or they are just overall better at Trials. After winning the match (and during the match), there is many people "teabagging" and showing unsportsmanlike behavior. Not only do people do things non-verbally, there is many times that players have messaged me calling me out for me and my clan's skill level, which I find disrespectful. All in all, I don't expect this to stop. It is sadly a part of the competitive gaming culture. However, I think that Destiny as a gaming community is one of the greatest. PVE is the prime example of this. Random strangers will help you out in tough encounters with enemies, help you complete the raid if you never have, cheer you on for gaining cool loot and much more things that make this game extremely different from any other. I would LOVE to see this more in Destiny PVP. I am not asking for the skilled players to be less competitive, or to purposely lose a round. If you want to go 5 - 0, do it! I encourage you. However, reframe from being rude to fellow players. They are here because the love playing the game, just like you. If this topic has been touched upon before, I apologize for not looking into it. I wanted to voice my own opinion and I hope that you can respect this. If you agree with this, please comment your thoughts. I would like to see this on the trending forum post so that Bungie can see this. EDIT: After reading many messages, let me make a few things clear. I am not raging, nor am I a sore loser. What I am saying is there is a lot of rude people who play the game and that goes with ANY multiplayer game. That's how it is! And I am not a fan of teabagging because it is degrading and shows that the players think they are the shit. However I could care less. The thing that pisses me off the most is when people message me afterwards with rude messages. Now just because I dislike these things, doesn't mean I can't handle it. I love Destiny and it's community, and what I am trying to say, is that we are better than that. To all of you people who have commented stories of helping others to the lighthouse, congratulating people on their performance, thank you. You are the guardians that deserve the rewards. You guys have fought, won, and continue to win afterwards because of your awesome leader skills. Final Edit: Thank you for all the feedback. Once again, this isn't about having my feelings hurt, or that people are bullies and need to stop (which bullying is a serious issue), its more about how you act. Most of you are taking the Teabagging part of this post to literally. Overall I am saying is don't be a dick. However, I did recognize that it is impossible to eliminate that behavior. I have been told many stories of cyberbullying that has occurred through Destiny, and I think that shouldn't be okay to do. I am the voice for the people that are scared to be judged or bullied on online forums or in game for voicing their opinions.

  • Sadly this isn't just a competitive issue. I got a message tonight actually because me and my friend joined a fireteam that had started a strike. We had issues with it, since my light level was low for a heroic. And we, me and my friend, were able to communicate pretty well. However, this means some of the team communication is often missed by randoms. Thus the player who messaged me didn't know that we were coordinating for survival. I had to pass up a lot of resses, because of adds assaulting the spot, because there was no cover, to avoid the boss smashing both the resser and the ressee. People think teamwork is mostly about getting them back up, but it is also making judgment calls. This can come off as "poor playing" and this get you the same toxic behavior you see in the PVP. There are tons of good players out there, who won't risking wiping a strike or a raid, just to get a person back up under full fire. And I fear that with this behavior leeching out from the PVP players is soon going to invade the PVE too. I have also had teabaggers in strikes for that very same reason as above. Passing up a revive in order to kite mobs away or because you needed to dodge something. Then you die, and rather than res you, they would teabag your ghost and then risk death before your timer runs out. It isn't a new behavior, but it is one of the crappiest to have. And it's the same attitude that births messages calling people scrubs. I like to call this the "pooptalking" mentality of players. Some just have to dominate a game, whether it is PVE or PVP, because they cannot allow themselves to just relax and enjoy the game. So they pooptalk others to feel like their superior. Anyway, sorry for the long rant. Just had to mention this is a more wide spread issue, not just PVP. And yes, it is super frustrating.

  • I could not agree with you more. And destiny encourages this behavior by providing rude emotes and not doing anything from preventing children from playing their games because that would bring in less money. You could kill yourself and no one from the destiny community would know or care in the slightest.

  • I would like to first of all thank you for this post. It is so refreshing to read something that is well written. I agree with what you are saying. Unfortunately when people game sportsmanship is last on the list for some. I can't say that I hadn't cussed at the screen, yelled at someone over the mic (even tho it was a friend). I can't tell you the number of times I have been t-bagged, received ugly messages, and been told women should not play video games. I have also had a lot of positive messages and have seen great sportsmanship. While playing strikes, raids, pvp, and public events so many go out of their to help you. With chests I love seeing a random player point them out to you as I do before I open them. We are only human. While I would love too have people who are wonderful all of the time that will never happen. We all have bad days, yes it sucks however I see more people that are amazing than those who are asses.

  •
Whats worse than death?
death and balls.
Sometimes, though, this is a beautiful experience. Like a wedding. But with nutz. Some weddings aren't so glorious, though. My sister once married an entire tribe of penguins. It was like watching someone t-bag out of context. Let's dive in! This comprehensive guide will show you the most beautiful moments to drag your unholy scrotum across someones face, and times when it may not be favorable. Campers-So you're having a good day, slaying in the Crucible, sweeping beautiful women off their feet, but then you turn around a corner and receive a shotgun facial. This is a great time to get a good chips and queso dip in. Make note of their location, slide around the corner and unload all over them. Promptly following their demise, position yourself over where their face was, and dip dip dip dip dip. Damn! That felt great. Super shutdown-So it's a Monday, your weekend of beer pong and hunting for foxy ladies in the grocery asiles is over, as if that's not depressing enough A BLADEDANCER IS CHARGING YOUR ASS. Luckily you're a badass, and you shut that -blam!- down. What to do now? This is a great time for the salty malt ball. Moonwalk over the body, and give them one beautiful, slow, elegant slosh of taint. They've learned their lesson. Universal Remote-So there you are, using your not-exotic-handcannon, doing just as average as your mother taught you, and you get pwned. No big deal, no h8, until Universal Remote pops up at the top right of your screen. Really, what it should say is I LOVE SWEATY TROUSER MEAT IN MY FACE. Well, it'd be poor of us to not oblige. Find the offender, and give them what I call the dodge, dip, duck, dive, and dodge! It's exactly as it sounds, but with your crotch. The Honor Bag-There are times when you meet someone with the exact skill level as you. You have a long gunfight, get a few melees in, and eventually one of you dies. It's important to honor these victories. The best bag for this case is the ass-sit to ashes. Make your way to their orb, give them one bag then sit on their face until they respawn. Do not dodge incoming fire, as this is a sacred ritual; one that should be respected. Revenge-Should someone bag you outside of these conditions, it's important to reassert your nutz as best nutz. These sons-of-Cryptarchs get the Cockleberry. To properly perform the Cockleberry you'll need two things: sweaty genitals and raw fury. (not to be confused with furries). Work up a good sweat inside that armor, let it all drip down to a good cheesy paste. Fist them to death. Don't be gentle. No means yes and yes means harder. Pound that -blam!- into the ground then use both hands to spam your crouch button. Your crotch will be a blur of salty hate, enemies will flee at the site of your vigorous and violent baggage. Lord Shaxx will personally give your nutz a shout out. "You're crushing them!" . Victory is yours, and you may proceed with your day as routine. I hope this guide helped you, keep those barrels hot!
and those nutz hotter.

• Word, and thank you for saying so. Teabagging is mock-sexual-humiliation. Why does no one notice this; it's in the goddamn name!? When you teabag you're making your character sexually assault a corpse. Why isn't everyone grossed out by that? Why does anyone think that's okay in a culture that's already got deep problems with misogyny and homophobia? I mean the game gives you ways to celebrate your awesome kill with emotes, what's up with all the teabagging? /rant

      • Now I don't agree with t bagging unless they're using final round or the whole team is inside a bubble dancing but I do believe in if I'm sniping and you challenge me and I beat you several times I will politely wave to you as to say good try but not good enough I think that hurts more people's pride than anything else

Let me sit you down right quick. If I see someone's bitch ass Hardscoping a hallway or blink-shotgunning, trying to snipe with TLW/Thorn or any other form of cheap ass play and I kill them several times in succession, they are getting a mouthful of Deez Brand(TM) Lightly Salted Nuts. Why? Because people who suck the fun out of a game like that deserve nothing less than a good old teabaggin'. It's fair because it doesn't matter if they're the sweatyest, hardcore Tryhard in existence or a kid who's just trying to score some kills. They're getting the bag.

        • I've racked up a lot more time in crucible than any other aspect of this game and I can honestly say I've never been tbagged by anyone with skill. It's always people who fist of panic or nova bomb and are lucky enough to get a kill or tag you when you've just finished a firefight with someone else, I check their score at the end of the game and no tbag has ever touched my guardians face that came from a positive KD player

        • Couldn't agree more. I will let my play speak for itself. If I am dominating so.eonr I don't feel the need to try and rub it in, I am looking for the next enemy and looking forward to facing off against them again. I wish more online communities had the same mentality that starcraft has (or had I haven't played or watched it in over a year now). But those matches almost always ended with a gg and started with a good luck have fun. Nothing huge but just shows mutal respect.

        • I agree, what I have come to accept is that this game is full of teenagers who get added amusement from taunting. Just for disclosure I'm am adult who not great in PvP. As difficult as it may be to accept this behavior is unavoidable and unenforceable for any online game so we just have to accept it

        • It is the reason I don't play crucible. I suck and know it. This is the first game I have every played PVP. Being at the bottom of the leader board is bad enough but when you get t-bagged by someone they are just rubbing it in your face and frankly I don't need that BS. I just don't bother playing.

There is no greater pleasure I take in this life than getting teabag the first round and then proceed to win every round after teabagging every orb I find. Sometimes I don't even bother supporting my team in killing the other two, I spend the entire round teabagging that orb until the round ends. I absolutely hate teabagging but if it's done to me I have no problem returning the favor.

            • I agree, if they want to teabag, go play halo 3. People who teabag are just trying to make themselves feel better about themselves in a game to rectify their lack of self esteem in real life. Have some class, and maybe you'll save yourself from being an idiot and a scoundrel. lol
