Dear Bungie: Concerning Destiny, here are three weapon ideas for the next DLC/ update after The Taken King:
SMGs are a Legendary Special weapon that allows sprinting in any direction when held, and have the unique upgrade that increases fire rate when sprinting, and increases sprint's top speed. Usually has low recoil, medium range, low bullet damage, slow reload, and high impact. Only found as a Legendary from a Decoherent Engram (Blue). Recommended for Hunters, with the strategy Run 'n' Gun in mind.
Heavy Snipers are a Legendary Heavy weapon that rivals the Sniper Rifle; it shoots MUCH slower, but does insane damage, and can be zoomed in or out somehow up to 2x the longest-range Sniper scope. Usually has high recoil, extreme range, insane bullet damage, slow reload, and really high impact. Rewarded by some character during the next DLC storyline. Recommended for Warlocks, with Angel of Light in mind.
And finally the Heavy Launcher: a Legendary Heavy weapon that launches volleys of up to 10 shots of weighted explosives, similar to a rapid-fire Grenade Launcher. Usually has low recoil, medium range, high explosive damage, medium reload, and high blast radius. Rewarded by some character during the next DLC storyline. Recommended for Titans, with Armor in mind- due to proximity to rounds launched.

As a exotic, yes, it would be cool... as a weapon class? No.

Sorry man. Stupid ideas. Just more shit for bungie to Nerf.

Auto Rifles basically are SMGs in this game. They nerfed the range in the last major patch and don't plan to undo it in 2.0. Basically you have to choose between range or stability when choosing perks, as if one is effective without the other...

Hardlight is an SMG technically.
