Great thread!
One question...Who is Dr Shim and why does the ghost quickly gloss over that name being used in the Archive?
Do you think we are Dr Shim resurrected or did the ghost control Dr Shim prior to finding us?

I think the ghost is doctor shim, there's a lore where all his copies were sent into the timelines to explore.
-
The copies of Shim, Sundaresh, Esi, and Duane-McNiadh were dispersed into the Vex networks. They could not be reincarnated or anything as separate beings
-
Perhaps the Archive just malfunctioned? It's been unmanned for years now, a few technical difficulties are to be expected.

Dr. Shim was one of the Ishtar scientists who studied the Vex and their abilities of simulation. The "We are Dr. Shim" theory works well if you're a human, or even and Exo, but it falls kinda flat if your an Awoken

Edited by Psychedelia: 9/6/2015 8:23:13 AMWe can't be Dr Shim because the story line we got stuck with is the exo story line. We weren't really "dead" just turned off. They cut the different story lines/missions for awoken and human characters out to make the release date. They also cut out all parts of the game we got that refer to our character as an exo so it wouldn't be confusing and also so it wouldn't look like they cut it out. I think the voice in the archive just assumes the only one who goes in there is Dr Shim and calls his name by default. I wish they'd given more information about him tho. It felt flat as hell to simply brush it off like our ghost does. The first time I played through, I thought "okay, I'm sure I'll meet this Dr Shim guy or hear more about him later on" but it never happened... Just another totally meaningless hole in the story due to parts cut out... I've heard of a lot of pieces that were cut, but never one actually about the Dr. I'm just assuming it was cut, due to how random it seems that he was even mentioned at all. Why couldn't the voice just have spoken to anyone without naming someone? Or the voice not existed at all? They cut shit to be lazy and then they were even lazy in how they cut it! Don't get me wrong, I love destiny, but I'm mad because I love it so much... I want to love it more and I want to love a great story, not just fun game play.

Dr. Shim is still in lore, and even if Bungie cut content, they could have still changed it just enough to make sense

I agree with that part of things but why is that name the one that's used when we enter the Archive? I would assume in order to gain access to the archive, one would have to have an entry key of some sort or another way of identifying one's self to the computer system. The system wouldn't just go, o hai Dr Shim, to every entity that would enter the facility and in fact even alerts you to intruders entering. Or is Dr Shim's access codes just what the ghost stumbled upon while breaking into the network to open the door?

Either our Ghost happened upon Shim's password out of all of the team's passwords, or he is hiding something from us. I don't think we'd be Dr. Shim, but you never know...

Fair enough. Ok last question, I promise LOL, stays along the same lines though... Ghost mentions the Archive is bigger than the one in Old Accra. What/where is Old Accra?
