Well to be fair to them every time they tried to leave their ships a guardian was waiting outside to hit them all with a rocket launcher before they even jumped off. I don't blame them for giving up after months of attempting it.

No one did that actually, they were invincible until they hit the ground. Ask anyone that actually knows the game.
