Let's take the first amendment and throw it out the window because we are so "offended" by people refusing to sell gays anything. I can refuse service to anyone. I don't have to serve anyone.

  • State employees don't have that right to refuse service to anyone. A state employee (who has the power) is under law, obligated to marry LGBT couples because they took an oath before becoming a state employee. Under the 14th Amendment, the state employee is REQUIRED to marry LGBT couples if the couple so desires. Citing the First Amendment as a way to disregard the 14th Amendment is just plain ignorant. If a person must cite their religion to refuse an LGBT couple to marry, then they should resign and let someone who is mentally fit to do their job, because that person is completely unfit to do their basic duties. If it was a private business, then your argument would hold ground. But since this is a state issue, there is absolutely no ground to stand on.
