So Bungie, let me start off with an actual thank you. Thank you! It seems many people on the forums love to bitch about your game for various reasons. I would simply like to thank you for putting in the effort to create a new IP and dealing with all the problems that come with that. I love the game, it has many flaws and from what you've said during interviews and weekly updates you aim to fix many of those. You've consistently worked to make the game better and as a fan of your game I appreciate this. Honestly, there's not really anything you've announced that has me worried about year two. I'm glad the old gear isn't getting ascended. I'm glad the op weapons are (FINALLY) getting a nerf and yes that includes gjallarhorn. I'm tickled pink that not all exotics are moving forward. I don't want to play with the same weapons constantly. That will get boring not to mention once you have every exotic and raid weapon what is there to look forward to when loot drops? You're doing the right thing by creating new weapons with different behavior to them. After all, variety is the spice of life they say.
Now, to my complaint, and yes despite what I just said, I do have one. The pricing....just what in the world is the logic behind this. Now I know others have complained about the pricing but, as you've never really said anything about it aside from offering the taken king as a stand alone offering for those who already have year 1 content, I gotta ask. So Taken King (hereafter referred to as TTK) is $40. TTK legendary is $60. If you bought Destiny and the year one expansion when it first came out it was $100. So, TTK legendary has all year one content and TTK for $60. So when you do the math, year 2 players are getting $100 worth of content for $20. (TTK is only $40 but the legendary edition that has everything is $60; 60-40=20). Now, year one players pay the $40 for TTK. Now we've spent $140 for destiny, while new players get the same content for less than half what year one players have paid? (140/2=$70) So tell me Bungie why in the hell would I continue to pay for content when new players are going to continue to come in late for a fortune less. Basically what you're telling me with this pricing model is that I am paying an exorbitant price for premium access, by which I mean playing now rather than a year from now when it'll be re-released at a MUCH cheaper price. Do you really see that the shift in price is justifiable? Games lose value with time, I get that, I just don't see how you feel it's okay to charge new people $20 for something I paid $100 for just because a year went by during which the game had many flaws and bugs that ultimately took damn near a year to fix in the first place. They pay a fifth of the price for the new and (finally) improved product? Basically with this model you're actually telling me NOT to buy the game now, in fact you're telling me to wait for year ten and get the real destiny experience (vanilla destiny plus all 10 years worth of content) for $100; because let's face it by your math that's all it should be worth.
So now that I've exposed the flaw in your pricing model, I would like to ask: Just why should I continue to shell out my hard earned money for a game that will continually cost me more and more when I can wait. Before you answer you should know that saying that old content may not always be available for new players will simply cause you to lose a customer altogether. By the model you've put in place, you either need to allow all content available to any player at any point or simply not allow old content to people who didn't get it when it was available. In other words, either the events in previous years are either locked to new people or it's all unlocked for everyone. You see where you're going wrong with your pricing model now? By giving new players access to the same content I shelled out 5 times as much for you've set a precedent that ALL content HAS to be available to ALL players at ANY point during Destiny's life cycle given that they pay for the new content plus old content at a reduced price. In other words you're finance department is a bunch of -blam!-ing idiots: because of that precedent you're telling me to wait until destiny has run it's course and pick up the entire game for way cheaper. Oh and as an added bonus, there will be no bugs, glitches, weapons will be balanced, and I'll know how to do raids because everyone else has put in the effort to figure these things out and have strategies for them. Genius! Thank you for saving me a metric butt-ton of money for a flawed product and pricing scheme. Now, after that you might think I was being sarcastic about the initial start of my post. I was not. It was a fun (and often frustrating) first year; however I am not willing to shell out great gobs of money each year for premium access.
I'm sure many people just simply don't care and will continue to buy your product and that's completely fine. I, however, will not be your cash cow or sugar daddy. You need to do better by you're consistent player base then handing out USELESS rewards such as shaders, sparrows, and emblems. Seriously, you NEED to give quality in game materials such as exotic weapons that simply can NOT be obtained any way other than by buying all content at LAUNCH. Oh, and while I'm at it, I don't mean an exotic at the end of the life cycle I mean a new exotic every new year. I don't care if they don't carry over year to year but give me something I can be proud of each year for showing loyalty and shelling out time and again for content. Something new players can't get anywhere. Something they can't hear about and get with special editions that cost them a fifth of what I shelled out.
