Just a question, would you call yourself a feminist?

  • Absolutely. As a feminist, I believe in equal rights and opportunity for all people, regardless of gender/sex. I believe that no one should be treated poorly based on how they identify. And I believe that people who try to derail a conversation about sexism by getting defensive about "not all men" should be challenged. Feminist - loud and proud.

  • IF YOU BELIEVE IN EQUALITY FOR EVERYONE MALE AND FEMALE CALL YOURSELF A F***ING EQUALIST. Calling yourself a feminist is saying I believe in rights for females only, it makes you sound stupid and ignorant to call your self a feminist, it sounds stupid to say you don't have equal rights. what can a man do in this day and age that a woman can't to do??? Please enlighten me because apparently there is a big social equality gap between men and women that I'm unaware about? If you want to know what unequal rights looks like, take a look at the Middle East, be grateful that you live in a country like ours WHERE YOU HAVE RIGHTS! I think that you are confusing unequal rights with the fact that some men (and women too) out there are just a**holes, just because a small fraction of society do not not know the meaning of respect doesn't mean that their taking away your basic human rights. It's time to grow up and realize just because someone's a "bully" or disrespectful it doesn't mean you are unequal, everyone has a right to be an a**hole just like you and I both have a right to state our opinion, it's something you are never going to change, ever. Call me an a**hole all you want because frankly I do not care, because I have learned something that you have not, it's called "sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me". Have a good day.

  • As an equalist, I would like to point out that even if we didn't have rule #1 you would still not qualify for rule #2. We are staunchly anti-jerk.

  • SHOUTY NOISES FROM A DEFENSIVE, UNINFORMED PERSON WANTING TO STAY THAT WAY SO THEY DON'T HAVE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR PERSONAL OR SOCIAL CHANGE! MORE SHOUTING ABOUT THINGS THAT SEEM RELEVANT BUT ARE ACTUALLY ATTEMPTS TO DISTRACT ATTENTION FROM THE MAIN POINT! That's what I heard out of that. I also find it amusing that you chose to get all worked up over my comment to someone else, but left the post in which I dismantled your dude-brah comments alone. If you want to talk about growing up, maybe step down the shouty defensiveness and realize that challenging an "opinion" isn't the same thing as trying to take away someone's right to express it. Maybe also check out this blog, might give you a new thought (or three): https://finallyfeminism101.wordpress.com/where-to-start/faq-i-asked-some-feminists-a-question-and-instead-of-answering-they-sent-me-here-why/ Good luck in the world, guardian!

  • Please educate yourself in the definitions of words before basing your whole point on something you have incorrect. https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/feminist

  • Please educate yourself on reading comprehension something you learn early in school to understand that my point in the whole argument was to say that the word feminist and feminism sounds one sided when how ever you want to fight for equal rights?, when your name makes you sound like your fighting for one side.

  • The recruitment is not intended to be a fight for equal rights in society. It's meant to be a recruitment to find other women who play a game. And you showed up to... Tell us you hate the word feminist. Thanks for the bumps but your opinion doesn't really matter here and you are making yourself look like a jerk. Those are the 2 things you are accomplishing here.

  • Inflammable sounds like it means "not flammable" when it means the opposite, shall we change the meaning of it too? It's not my fault if the way words sound is confusing to you.

  • What we're saying is that we have the right to call ourselves what we want. Also, we're only speaking for ourselves, not the whole group, as has already been pointed out in this thread. If you want to talk about our clan name, our name isn't about "fighting" for one side, it's about truth in advertising - we're an all-female group, and proud of it, so we put it out there first and foremost. You may prefer the term equalist, and you get to do that. However, seeing as how male privilege continues to exist, no matter what country/context, I'm going to keep calling attention to that by using the term feminist. Sorry if it challenges your fragile worldview of all humanity being equal - that's what it's intended to do.

  • What male privilege explain? Because I don't see any advantage in having a penis? Like explain why you feel inferior because in reality you arent

In short: hundreds of years of inequality have led to a historical and societal disadvantage for women.

If you're actually serious in asking this question, these might help. If you're closed to any potential disconfirming information, then don't bother, you'll just find reasons to ignore or discount the information: https://finallyfeminism101.wordpress.com/2007/03/11/faq-what-is-male-privilege/ http://blog.shrub.com/check-my-what/ http://ilykadamen.blogspot.com/2007/03/occasionally-conversations-with-my-man.html http://www.huffingtonpost.com/brynn-tannehill/pondering-male-privilege-post-transition_b_3744103.html http://everydayfeminism.com/2015/05/proof-male-privilege/ http://www.sap.mit.edu/content/pdf/male_privilege.pdf Also, I need you to understand that I don't feel inferior - I know I'm awesome - but I recognize that if our broader society had its way, I would have internalized that my voice is inferior and shouldn't be expressed. I'd also have internalized that I shouldn't expect to get paid the same amount of money for doing the same job as a man, or that it's ok that my reproductive rights have been and continue to be under attack from men who think they have some rights to my body. Those, among others, are the issues at hand here.

  • Sex and gender is the same thing. But I'm dropping this conversation because all most everyone has equal rights.

  • They're not the same thing - sex is a (often flawed) biological classification, while gender is a social construct about what it means to be male, female, or not on the binary. For more info, here's a quick fact sheet from the APA that might help. http://www.apa.org/pi/lgbt/resources/sexuality-definitions.pdf I'm glad that from where you sit you feel everyone has equal rights - that's a lovely world in which you live. I live in a very different reality, and disagree strongly that everyone has equal rights. If you want to be done, then thanks for the bumps - always appreciate getting our recruitment thread back to the top of the list - and good luck in the world, guardian!
