Okay, so Sparrow Races. I don't know if everyone wants them, but back in the day everyone was suggesting this. So I'm gonna put a couple of ideas on how it could work. If you don't like them, I'm open to suggestions and constructive feedback. I also plan on expanding this idea.
Okay, so one of the main problems I can see with Sparrow Races is people have different powerful sparrows. For example, a Blue Sparrow from Holiday isn't going to go as fast as a Timebreaker fresh out the Vault of Glass with the boost ability. But this does not need to be a issue. What I suggest is that as one of (A few) drops from races, you can get upgradable Sparrow parts which you can use to make them better, like with Xur selling them. Make some for various rarities and one can even keep a Sparrow they like or add to it.
Now onto the race itself.
In the menu, there will be a new option, seperate from Crucible: Sparrow Races. There are several different types:
Race: Simple. You have other players, race to the end end of a course.
Arms Race: Fallen on pikes are trying to shoot you down. Avoid them and trick them into shooting your foes. Get to the end first to win.
Race The Darkness: A horrific Shadow spreads acorss the land. Outrace it as it paces behind you, before it consumes you. Last Guardians alive wins.
Time Trial: The good old time trial option. Set a better time then the Legends to get a cool prize.
Every now and then, a Iron Banner type event will unlock: The Grand Prix. In this mode, Guardians race each other for points in the other modes, with top points going to 1st place and diminising every other place. Though even last gets a few points. Points allow access to some cool new items, some Sparrow related, some not so much. For example, at 100 points one can get some custom sparrow items, and at 200 points a new gun may be avalible or a Exotic Sparrow at 500. At the end of the event, the top 25 players with the most points overall, gets a cool new Artifact to show their victory.
Now what did I say about Sparrow Cuatomisation? Simple. One can now earn Sparrow Parts, both for mechnical uses (Can go faster for example) combat uses (Can make it better for ramming foes and surviving hits for example) or for looks (Who wants that fire on a different Sparrow huh?)
Course Ideas:
The Vault Of Glass: let's face it, that place with it's deep drops, terrible twists, and good looks, was born for a good race. Start off at the Entrance, then drive though the trails, sparrow into the Templar's Well, dive deep down into the Gorgon's labriynth, avoid the Gaze, drive right into the Vault and smash headfirst into the gate at the end.
Mars Attacks: You start off at the spawn oint, drive down throgh the ruins into The Ruined City and then into the Vally Of The Kings, then though the Vex Time Gate into The Black Garden for Round 2. A test of endurance this one.
If you guys have anything to add, let me know below and I will add it if I think it a good idea.

I've been thinking about racing for a bit. My suggestion is leaving your PvE sparrows out of it. Everyone has a racing sparrow (in a seperate page in the menu.) There can be both PvP racing bounties, and parts runs that can be done in a patrol or something. All of this can be associated with a vendor that can sell parts, and provide bounties. This sparrow mechanic (we can just call him scooter) can also tell you what sparrow parts you find are. So you won't get engrams, you'll get "unknown parts". Maybe a little banter when scooter IDs the parts. You can then go to your menu and install/upgrade these parts. I would even go so far as to say... the parts get the same style upgrade path as weapons and armor. I recommend the following.
Parts:
Frame
Body
Engine
Stability system
Deceleration assembly
Stats:
Weight
durability
Speed
Handling
Frames directly effect handling and weight. Small changes to durability.
Body directly effects armor and weight. Small changes to handling
Engine directly effects speed and weight. Small changes to handling
Stabilizer parts effect handling and weight. Small changes to speed
Deceleration parts are what changes to boosts with no brakes, smaller turning radius, or normal brakes. This slot can mildly effect all stats except durability.
On PVP/PVP Sparrpw Difference: Let's imagine that you can ride your Time Breaker/Grave Robber in PvE, but not race it..... BUT you can race your race sparrow and equip it for PvE. I see no reason that your racer can't be used in PvE.
On why people would want Timebreaker if done: To show off that victory. Maybe if they implement this, instead of getting Time Breaker or Grave Robber you can get a part for your racer.
Bump, guardians could always have more activities. Sound like fun.
