Fusion rifles were BROKEN in the early days. Easiest kills ever. They could make anyone good. Blue ones, green ones, didn't matter. Their power and effective range made them really unbalanced. The Pocket Infinity used to be a terror.
The concept of them is still really cool. I don't think they should OHKO with a body shot. Make the spread more narrow and have them reward precision hits. You could spray someones toe with one and vaporize them. Maybe make the fastest charge rate class a little slower too.

Did you play Destiny last year when fusion rifles were broken? They were worse than the high range/high impact shotguns. You could OHKO from way further. Way easier kills. They became peoples primaries. There is a reason they nerfed them. Imagine the Queenbreakers Bow with a [b]much larger[/b] area of effect that rewards precision. I'm not saying don't let them OHKO, but just make it reward precision. Maybe a range drop off. If you're close, then let it body shot kill. But when you could spray someone from across the map they were broken.

I'm presuming that you're talking about pvp. OP suggests a pve orientated damage buff, not pvp.

That would make them totally useless everywhere. Every bolt has to hit for it to kill like a shotty and it's pelts do in pvp or your target still lives with a sliver of health. With the spread of the projectiles there is very little chance to get a precision hit from range since fusions don't give precision bonus, so you'd be up close and personal where a shotgun would work even better anyways. Fusions were meant to be the counter to shotguns but nerfs and poor map design has made them obsolete.

Fusion rifles could OHKO from way further than any shotgun could before the nerf. You definitely didn't need the entire spread to hit either. You used to hear those things reving and pre-firing all the time, because why use any other gun? Just make the burst shoot more like a bolt than a wave and reward precision. Like if the Mythoclast had a larger cone and shot one charged round at a time instead of many like an auto rifle.
