I didn't think it was all that funny, either, but I wasn't the guy he was poking fun at. Making a joke that falls flat is not even remotely the same thing as being anything phobic. The sad irony is that histrionics such as the OP's actually harm their cause. Otherwise sympathetic ears grow so tired of the wolf-crying that when a real issues arises, they're so sick of hearing about it they roll their eyes and ignore it.
