Without context you can't even tell what he's talking about. No matter if he's talking her appearance or even perhaps the car accident where she killed someone, neither were transphobic. Stop fishing for offensiveness.

  • See, you were able to articulate something that I was not. That is why I asked the op to explain how the comment was offensive. Seems that everything is offensive these days and if someone gets hurt feelings then everybody needs to walk on eggshells because of it. He even called her Caitlin instead of Bruce and said herself instead of himself.

  • If you follow the link in the tweet, you'll go to another person's twitter account, which has a picture of The Mona Lisa photoshopped in with the male twitter user's stubbled face. To which Nolan North replies, "wow Caitlyn Jenner really let herself go." Now, regardless of how North actually feels about transgender individuals or Caitlyn Jenner specifically, it's a joke in poor taste, especially for a topic that carries an incredible amount of emotional baggage. Regardless of whether or not he meant to offend, it is an offensive joke.

  • I'm still not seeing it, but then again, I am neutral about this because I am not going to tell someone what they should or should not be offended about.

  • Well, the nature of jokes, and all human interaction, is that what is offensive to some people is neutral or inoffensive to others. I explained what is "wrong" and "objectionable" about North's tweet. I personally don't think there's much about being transgender that's a particularly good source of humor. To my mind, barring an actual physical/mental disability, it's probably the worst defect to be born with. To be born trapped in a body that doesn't match your gender identity? It is literally unimaginable to me. It's torture. I have a family member who is dealing with this every moment of every day as we laugh and joke about it on the internet. So, am I getting out my pitchfork for North? No. It's a bad joke. I've made my fair share of bad jokes about topics that weren't really worth joking about and aren't really funny, transgender included. He also already offered up a (weak) apology. But I do look at that joke and think, "you know what? That's not -blam!-ing funny."

  • Hey, I totally understand your feelings, especially how it is something personal to you. I have said for a long time now that I cannot imagine the burden of someone that is willing to go so far that the only way to gain some measure of peace would be to alter the body so drastically. Then again, I usually stay away from topics like this.

  • Well, for whatever it's worth, I'm not really attacking you, or anyone else for that matter. I think OP is overreacting a little, but I certainly understand why they find the joke upsetting. I think it's a bad joke. I look at it and just go, oh Jesus, not funny dude. I don't know if I would call it a transphobic joke, but, as a cisgendered individual, it's not really my place to decide what is/is not transphobic. In my mind, it's the kinda joke you immediately make off the cuff without thinking about it, and then immediately regret. We've all made those, myself included, and sometimes we pay consequences for the things we say, even in jest, myself included. The best thing to do is to make a sincere apology, commit to trying not to repeat the mistake and move on.

  • I didn't think you were attacking me at all. In fact, all you did was provide context for me to at least understand why someone would find it offensive. That was all I was hoping for and you did that. Thank you.
