PS4 Internal Hard Drive Upgrade
Hi all,
So recently I've noticed that I have nearly used all the 500gb of space in the standard PS4 hard drive. I want to upgrade it (possibly to a 2tb HDD) and I was wondering how that would affect everything currently on my ps4. How would I go about after upgrading the HDD. I am aware that everything would be deleted, so I would need to re-install all of my games, and download my saved data from the cloud (I am not sure how any of this works, though). However, I am very new to this, and any clarification/help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much!
Edit: Finished installing the HDD in my PS4...thank you so much to everyone that helped me. It's working like a charm. I'm going to keep this thread open because it has a lot of useful information for anyone in the same boat as me. Thanks again!

9 RepliesRemember to wipe down the inside of your PS4 with a very wet towel. It will increase performance as it will remove dust and other build up, which increases heat build up. Don't dry it either, the vapor will further clean everything.

7 RepliesI have just completed updating my hdd today. This is how I did it. 1. Made sure game saves and trophies had been synced with ps cloud. 2. Using a 500GB external drive used the PS4 own backup program in settings. Showed 4 hrs to backup a full ps4 drive. 3. Whilst backing up I downloaded the full software V2.57 from Sony (785MB approx) to a usb drive. Need to create a couple of folers and place file there. 4. Backup finishes turn of ps4. Unplug cables then replaced drive takes 5 mins max. 5. Insert all cables and usb pendrive. Press and hold power button on ps4 to enter safe mode. 6. Select option 7 then wait for ps4 to restart. 7. Set up ps4 as you did initially but don't activate as primary device. 8. Plug in backup device and goto settings and restore. Follow instructions and it will take same amount of time to restore as it did to backup. 9. Once complete log in set as active primary device again check your settings. 10. Your good to go. No downloading anything. All games work. 2TB hdd working great.

4 RepliesEdited by ShingetsuMoon: 8/28/2015 3:30:24 AMPutting your save data on a USB would be faster. Actually taking the old hard drive out and putting the new one in is insanely easy. Seriously took me less then 5 minutes. Just make sure you have the right screwdriver. Make sure the hard drive dimensions are the right size. Not the amount of storage space, the actual dimensions of it. Don't get one and then find out it's just a smidge too big for your console. Most 2 TB drives should be fine though. Make sure you have a USB stick with the PS4 operating system on it. MAKE SURE IT IS THE CORRECT ONE. There is a special download of the operating system specifically for when the PS4 hard drive has just been replaced. That's the one you need. Yes you will need to reinstall AND update all your games again before you can play them. It's a pain but the extra hard drive space is worth it.

5 RepliesShop around for the best one. Depending on how many games you play certain hard drives will be better than others. I prefer a solid state hard drive personally.

11 RepliesWith your saves, it's probably easier to save them all to a USB stick because chances are you have more than 1GB of saves (which is the max cloud storage you can have FTL). Grab a Seagate Backup Plus Slim 2TB external drive. Pop it open and take the hard drive out of it's case (be careful not to break the case or the foil) and put it into your PS4. Download the PS4 OS to your USB as well from the playstation website and install on your console as per instructions. Load up all your saves. Download all you games and patches and you're good to go.

3 RepliesGoogle and YouTube will explain best. Remember Make sure the hdd you are putting in fits, should be 2.5" I believe, same as most laptops, and make sure it is a SATA hdd or it won't work. Download the OS directly from the playstation website not some 3rd party(make sure you get the actual OS and not just the update, OS should be just under 1gb). Downloading everything into a usb for back up should be fastest (if your usb is big enough). Take your time, makes sure you push the hdd in place all the way. Don't force it, everything should go back smoothly, you do NOT need to crank the screws, just make sure it's taught. Good luck.
