What's your best guess for the darkness? You think it's the humans with civil war? The vex?
How did Eris survive in crota's nightmare world for so long without her ghost? Don't you become mortal again after you lose your ghost?

The Darkness was some outside force, that's all I know for sure. Also, it seemed to contain/emit some form of dark energy/matter Because we were reborn in the Light, we don't really age no matter what, even if our Ghost dies. She used tactics taught to her by Toland in order to hide, until our Guardian opened the Temple of Crota

I can tell you what 'tactics' he taught her, and they're not tactics. He simply gouged her eyes out and replaced them with the hive eyes you see. That way they would look at her in the shadows and see her as one of their own. It was the only way she could survive. I'm still kinda curious what she ate, but I'm really not /that/ curious, cuz I kinda suspect. BLECK!!!!

She was the one who actually replaced her eyes. There's some flavor text or dialogue saying, "They took one eye, so I took three," Either way, she had to have learned something from him, or else the Hive probably would have detected her Light
