You make a valid and convincing argument. A vast majority of the community has done everything you laid out, myself included. Yet, the trouble is, as with much of everything, is that the loudest screamers are often the most deluded.
We all want the best for ourselves selfishly, yet are irritated when someone else receives the same, and begin making claims of what I call "pseudo-elitism." Everybody wants to be the best but no one works for it and they feel entitled to it. And if they can't have it, well let's whine and complain and demand radical changes. But then do not come back a cry that those same drastic measures you demanded are dropped on you like an anvil.
I play this game because I want powerful gear. Plain and simple. When I play crucible, I want those same powerful weapons and gear to be available. And I want the same for my opponents. What will that cause? An even playing field where skill, and skill alone, will be the deciding factor. That way, a player who loves using No Land Beyond can kill as easily as someone running around with Hard Light. The gear and weaponry are equal in power, it's just who is more accurate. The Hard Light player may panic and spray and pray, whereas the NLB player will remain calm and place an accurate killing shot. The opposite can be true. The NLB is wildly firing, missing, and the Hard Light lines up a clean burst of auto fire and kills.
Bottom line is, we criticize without taking the time to analyze what it is we are criticizing. We react with emotion.
