24+ hour stream on 9/15 starting at 5am eastern!
So I'm a newb streamer. I plan on getting a playstation camera in the future to stream more, but I need pointers.
I am a girl and everyone says that I need to show cleavage to get a lot of views. I really don't want that. Granted I will freshen up though and wear makeup and dress appropriately but Can you give me pointers and advice? I have some past broadcasts and would love if anyone with some free time could check them out. Lately I have some cod ones so please excuse those.
I understand having a schedule helps, but I don't plan on making one until I get a camera.
Thank you so much ahead of time!!!!!

WHAT I HAVE LEARNED:
Nightbot
Be yourself, dress as you would normally.
Don't be monotone, speak well and address audience.
If camera shy, place picture beneath camera to help.
Help viewers every once in a while.
Don't straight up ask for donations.
Check other high up streams for examples.
Try to be humorous and entertaining.
Don't be berating and trolly against chat trolls.
Expect nasty chat messages as a female, ignore it.
Try to save $ to invest in better streaming equipment.
Have party chat with everyone's voice to be heard.
Create a schedule, shows commitment.
Try streaming when main popular streamers are not.
Do not rage over own stupidity and blame other players
Do not need camera, but if do make sure background appropriate and lighting is good.
Have a good microphone.
There are some more that are very specific but I promise that I have made note of them. If I seem to be missing more info please let me know so I can add them to this post and use this thread as my "cheat sheet".
Edit: Lots of sound advice from everyone. Thank you so much! I still welcome more! YwY
Edit 2: wow! So much to read! I may not Che able to comment them all but I am listening to all you have to offer! Thank you so much for trying to help a future streamer! :)
Edit 3: I've decided to do the whole cam thing. I will be getting one this weekend and trying it out for a stream. :)

Edited by Naualli: 8/27/2015 3:06:30 PMYou said it all. Don't become or do something You don't want in order to gain something that won't br solid. Just be Yourself and people will like Your job, and remember that is better to have 5 people really engaged in what You do than 5000 persons only using You as a fetiche or porn source. A schedule and a well defined "programme" will be paramount, establish categories where You can showcase games You play daily and games You try out. The most important thing to do is always to showcase and out up front Your take on gaming and streaming.

Get a YouTube channel to post highlights from streams and extra content it will boost your rating by a lot

I like streamers who are genuinely funny, that don't try to be. Bring down to earth is super cool as well. I don't care if you're good or bad, it is not up to me to decide if you're good enough, as long as you're entertaining.

Topless
-
be unique
-
Gimmick. Have one or you will never get views
-
I totally misread the title as Cleveland steamer on first glance.
-
I have a cat named panda
-
Wear a turtleneck sweater. Problem solved!
-
Film from the neck up. But I think you want the opposite effect
-
I gave you a cheeky follow, I'll be watching : )
-
What if I show you MY cleavage while you stream? Would that be better? I'm a dude, but if I scrunch my shoulders inward... aaand if I push my hands together reeaal tightly... there! Sorta-kinda cleavage!

Edited by pillow: 8/27/2015 8:16:10 AMTry to keept an ongoing commentary at all times. Streams a lot more interesting when the streamer themself has things to say and lets their thoughts be known. Be interactive and actively talk with your comment section whenever possible. This, of course, requires you to have good nerves thanks to trolls and flamers, so always ignore trolly comments. And lastly: You do not need a facecam. WHile seeing a streamer's face is all fine and dandy, how useful a facecam really is depends on how expressive the streamer is, and what is their personality. Are you easily impressed by things that happen in-game? Do you often show your emotions with various expressions and motions? Then by all means, get a facecam if you want! Do you often keep a more monotone expression when things happen? Do you show little-to-no emotion with expression, and rather let your thoughts be known through words? Then a facecam, while an alright addition, is not necessarily needed. I'll follow you on Twitch so I can come by and check out what your stream's like sometime. Good luck with your road to streamer fame.

•Stream as much as you can and often as you can •Interact with your chat as much as possible •Giveaways are like candy to many people (give one away day every 50 followers) •Have fun, smiling and an upbeat/funny attitude attract a lot of people •Get nightbot, very helpful and you can give commands •Only make mods out of those you trust and that will be there in as many of your streams as possible
-
1. Don't be kaceytron, if you don't know who she is go watch her, she is a cam girl (money / attention whore) 2.speak to your viewers, always be interactive 3. Only mod those you know and trust 4. Have fun and be dedicated, have a set time for streaming etc, it's more then a hobby 5. Nobody wants to watch someone with 0 viewers, if you can tell your friends and family to watch you but just keep the tab / app open, ( someone is more likely to come into your stream if you have 1-5 viewers not 0)
-
Interact with the chat, be yourself, have fun
-
Just be yourself. Talk to the camera naturally, like you're talking to a friend who sitting right there.

Edited by iZnth: 8/27/2015 9:13:29 AMDo your own thing. There are lots of streamers with near-as-makes-no-difference ideal content and ways of presenting said content. Nurture the chat. Viewer interaction is key for viewer retention. Stream consistently. Randomly selected stream times will mean inconsistent figures. Don't put up with things that make you uncomfortable. Put frankly, there are a lot of sexist assholes out there. You need to have a way of dealing with them. Study other (female) streamers. I would highly recommend Shameless83 (funny, solid player, great at handling the chat including trolls). Annialis is also very good, but her stupid high PvP skill level makes a lot of people shut up by itself so it might not be representative of a "normal" streamer.
-
Just sell out and go topless. You will be number 1 in a few days.
-
Just play the game. People watch streamers to be entertained or for information. I'm assuming you're going to be doing the former, so just entertain people. Find your own sense of humor and commentary that sets you aside.

A little cleavage never hurt anybody, show those pandas off
I genuinely apologize, I just couldn't resist
Edited by MadTagger19: 8/27/2015 9:01:37 AMBest advice I could say is don't be like everyone else it gets old just be yourself and be confident in yourself but you will always find haters and trolls so don't give up easily

Are you ready for some real constructive criticism? This is what you have asked for so don't listen to any of these white knight fools. It's reality and it's how the mass will think when coming across the strim. You need to show cleavage with average looks that's the bottom line. We have MANY cleavage streamers to choose from and we will watch them over you. Be bubbly and VERY interactive, reply to every little fan boys comments in chat so they feel like a special snow flake. DON'T be feminist, everyone likes a girl who can joke about the stereo types. In fact it's very appealing to most and draws me in personally.
-
be witty, be charming, be nice and be good.. and be prepared that showing no cleavage will get you down to 1/10 of views.. sad but thats it..
-
Do the pandas do the shooting or are you shooting the pandas? But I'd say personality and content is key. Pretty and boring doesn't cut it for me. You have to be entertaining, it's like hosting a party, you want people to stay and have fun. A good and fair mod goes a long way too.
