24+ hour stream on 9/15 starting at 5am eastern!
So I'm a newb streamer. I plan on getting a playstation camera in the future to stream more, but I need pointers.
I am a girl and everyone says that I need to show cleavage to get a lot of views. I really don't want that. Granted I will freshen up though and wear makeup and dress appropriately but Can you give me pointers and advice? I have some past broadcasts and would love if anyone with some free time could check them out. Lately I have some cod ones so please excuse those.
I understand having a schedule helps, but I don't plan on making one until I get a camera.
Thank you so much ahead of time!!!!!

WHAT I HAVE LEARNED:
Nightbot
Be yourself, dress as you would normally.
Don't be monotone, speak well and address audience.
If camera shy, place picture beneath camera to help.
Help viewers every once in a while.
Don't straight up ask for donations.
Check other high up streams for examples.
Try to be humorous and entertaining.
Don't be berating and trolly against chat trolls.
Expect nasty chat messages as a female, ignore it.
Try to save $ to invest in better streaming equipment.
Have party chat with everyone's voice to be heard.
Create a schedule, shows commitment.
Try streaming when main popular streamers are not.
Do not rage over own stupidity and blame other players
Do not need camera, but if do make sure background appropriate and lighting is good.
Have a good microphone.
There are some more that are very specific but I promise that I have made note of them. If I seem to be missing more info please let me know so I can add them to this post and use this thread as my "cheat sheet".
Edit: Lots of sound advice from everyone. Thank you so much! I still welcome more! YwY
Edit 2: wow! So much to read! I may not Che able to comment them all but I am listening to all you have to offer! Thank you so much for trying to help a future streamer! :)
Edit 3: I've decided to do the whole cam thing. I will be getting one this weekend and trying it out for a stream. :)

Cleveland steamer

You have two good pointers. Use them.
-
Give me a schedule and I'll watch
-
Add humor, but don't overdue it. You will need something that makes people remember you and make you stand out.
Don't be that angry german kid

This isn't dark souls, don't you dare throw that controller

wear normal clothes, twitch =/= strip club

Don't stare at the camera all the time, it will become Slenderman. And you don't want Slenderman.

Play elevator music during intermissions, not something lame, like Justin Beaver
^ some of the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Show. Cleavage.
Please.
-
I just don't see the point in streaming.
-
I'd watch if you got your cleavage out. Or did things like "if I reach $100 in tips I'll go topless" You'll get a shit load of viewers and tips
-
It might help to watch other people and come up with your own catchphrase or something. Gotta make sure you're different so people have a reason to watch you, no offense :3
-
u know you'll have to get a ps4 camera not a regular camera because i tried to connect a normal web cam and it didnt work
-
One thing forgotten by many...Have fun. If you're not having fun your viewers will know. Also don't take yourself too seriously. Good luck!
-
Wow sounds like you have all the advice you need, looking forward to seeing you stream
-
Just be yourself and have fun, true followers will come. Good Luck
-
Just don't listen to idiots, you don't need to show off your body in any way to get viewers. My advice is to always pay attention to chat but don't feed the trolls, and always be yourself and have fun with it because it just makes a stream that much more enjoyable for the viewer when you can tell the streamer loves what they are doing
-
Hi I just wanted you to know that if you are looking for someone to stream things with feel free to add me. Im a level 30 hunter, I have a mic and I'm not camera shy.
-
Stream well you will.
-
Realistically, would i watch you as a "cleaver?" Probably, but i would take you serioudly as a gamer. The beauty of streaming is that you can make it exactly as you want. If uou have good content and an entertaining personality. People will watch.

Edited by Pale Spider: 8/28/2015 10:00:45 PMOr be like me and be an anon-streamer. (Reasons shifted with career) Granted that wont get you popular... But whatever. Just be yourself, dont result to faking a persona, or boobing up your broadcasts if you dont want to.
-
Just be yourself, and above all have fun. If you're having a good time, the audience probably is as well.
-
just be entertaining. laugh at what's funny, find the humor in what isn't. ppl tend to flock to happy individuals. at least the kinda ppl you'd prefer
-
No idea why you would want to shoot a panda #TurnOff
-
Instead of a Cleavage Streamer I would recommended you try a Cleveland Steamer.

Edited by t_blades: 8/28/2015 7:08:25 AM- Try to learn your returning viewers and make the most loyal/trustworthy moderators. - Be constructive when playing with those less skilled. *** Below if you are planning to carry. *** - Know your skill level, do not double carry unless you know you can get these guys to the lighthouse - If you are carrying with someone else helping get in touch with the other smaller streamers, if you help each other carry it will grow your popularity and you can also learn off each other. - multitwitch.tv - Until you have a good viewer base DO NOT accept any donations for carries. The more time you put into free carries the more your viewer base will grow - Do not use lists, this encourages ppl to drop in and then leave if the list is big. Use Raffles. - Once the steam is bigger and you are accepting donations Make sure to still run raffles for free users to keep viewers. - Make sure Raffles happen at good intervals. If you run a donor list too long people will leave. Try to do 1/2 donors and 1 raffle. Remember your raffles are what grows the channel, if you run too many donors in concession people will leave. - Make a youtube and post as much as you can on there for people to check out when watching the stream. - Do challenge runs and post videos on youtube. - Don't actually shoot any pandas
-
So far you've done a great job of ignoring all of my previous ignorant comments so you are well on to your way to being a solid streamer. If you can ignore the crap and be thick skinned, you will be fine. The world is a harsh place. Especially for a girl involved in a "guy's world"
-
Have an opening that everyone knows. Even DPJ has one, "HEEEY ITS YO BOI DPJ WIFF ANOWER DESTINY VIDEOOOOO!"
-
My best advice have fun! Show how much you love to play video games. Not just doing it for the views but have a genuine love. Also you have a nice smile!

Edited by Ankh: 8/28/2015 7:17:55 AMSGA: Just be yourself, true to yourself, respect yourself as you would respect others. Ignore haters and don't give them any attention. Listen to CONSTRUCTIVE negative and positive feedback. Good Luck ;) P.S. Don't feel like you have to show meat to get attention, your a respectable human being not a cow looking to get eyed up and butchered. Besides people saying show cleveage are probably potential perverted candidates. Your here to entertain us with games not porn
