1. Reading the FWC card, still no clue.
2. It doesn't necessarily make you go crazy. Only a percentage did. And plus, how would you defeat the Darkness by killing the Light?

It's flavour text was changed........ It was named red death "guardian killer" and apparently is suppose to be dismantled on site by orders of the tower.... There's a really good lore video on red death floating around you tube at the moment

It wasn't defeating darkness some subjects saw they could not beat the darkness like the hunter and he thought red death the gun he made from suros was the only was to survive there speculation
