Regardless of the actual answer this fits all criteria. Tool of destruction? Check. Nuisance? Check. Advanced beyond other thralls? Check (albeit a failed attempt to create Ogres) Not of their own will? Check. Underestimate and perish? Check. Controlled by the ruler of a giant kingdom? Check. I'll wait for the answer to be revealed and see what other item/creature fits the bill.
